FLUSHING, N.Y. – Kansas State women’s tennis student-athlete Petra Niedermayerova bounced back from her first round loss at the 2012 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, N.Y., on Friday with a straight set win in the consolation bracket. A pair of Wildcats were also in action at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.

Facing Armstrong Atlantic State’s Barbora Krtickova, who was a wild card entry from NCAA Division II, Niedermayerova tallied a 6-3, 6-3, win to reach the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. This is the second straight year Niedermayerova has reached the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.

Niedermayerova, a 2012 ITA All-American and a two-time All-Big 12 selection, owns a record of 12-2 this season. The junior from Brno, Czech Republic, owns a career singles record of 60-25 (.706), including a 16-14 mark against opponents ranked in the national ITA singles rankings. Niedermayerova’s career mark in straight set matches stands at 52-14 (.788), which includes all 14 matches she has played this fall. Niedermayerova’s career winning percentage of .706 ranks second in school history.

On Saturday, Niedermayerova will play Maho Kowase of Georgia in the consolation quarterfinals. Saturday’s quarterfinal winner will return to the court later in the day to play in the semifinals.

At the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, Ivana Kubickova and Carli Wischhoff looked to end their fall seasons on a high note. Kubickova registered a hard fought Round of 32 singles win over Desirae Tran of BYU, 2-6. 6-1, 7-5. Later in the afternoon, Kubickova fell in a three-set marathon with Klara Fabikova of California, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4). The freshman from Brno, Czech Republic is now 9-4 this fall.

In doubles, Kubickova and Wischhoff won their only match of the day. The duo defeated Kelly Chui and Laura Posylkin of California, 8-3. The K-State pair is now 4-2 when paired together this fall.
