MANHATTAN, Kan. – In the debut of the spring 2013 Campbell/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national team rankings, Kansas State checked in at No. 67 on Friday. The Wildcats are also represented in the national singles and doubles rankings by Petra Niedermayerova, Karla Bonacic and Ivana Kubickova.
K-State will make their 25th appearance in the last 30 Campbell/ITA national team rankings dating back to Feb. 8, 2011. This is the second straight season K-State will open the spring schedule among the national team rankings after debuting at No. 46 in 2012.
Niedermayerova will open the 2013 spring season ranked No. 15 in the national ITA singles rankings and retains her top position in ITA Central Region. She has now appeared in 19 consecutive national ITA singles rankings with a career-best of No. 14 in the fall 2012 rankings.
The junior from Brno, Czech Republic, ended her fall season with a 13-3 record. During the fall of 2012, she tallied a quarterfinal appearance at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships, the singles title at the ITA Central Regional and a consolation semifinal appearance at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
A 2012 ITA All-American and a two-time All-Big 12 selection, Niedermayerova owns a career singles record of 61-26 (.701), including a 17-15 mark when facing an opponent ranked among the national ITA singles rankings. Niedermayerova’s career winning percentage of .701 ranks second in school history.
In the 2013 national doubles rankings, Niedermayerova appears twice in the national ITA doubles rankings. She is ranked No. 30 in the nation with Kubickova. The duo advanced to the finals of the 2012 ITA Central Regional and tallied a 5-1 record when paired together this season. Among the 2013 ITA Central region rankings, the pair is ranked No. 3
The second doubles ranking for the Wildcats includes Niedermayerova and Bonacic ranked No. 34 in the national ranking and No. 4 in the ITA Central Region rankings. The duo notched a 6-3 record during the fall and has been ranked in five straight national ITA doubles rankings dating back to April 17, 2012.
Head coach Steve Bietau returns for his 29th season with the Wildcats and owns 255 career victories. Bietau’s roster will include six letterwinners from the 2012 squad and will look to improve upon an 8-15 record including a 4-5 mark in Big 12 action. The Wildcats finished the 2012 season ranked No. 71 in the nation.
K-State will open its 2013 spring schedule on Jan. 18-20 at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga.
