In singles action, Kansas State has won 20 of its last 23 singles matches, including 18 in straight sets, dating back to the final two matches of the contest against Elon in Athens, Ga., on Jan. 25. The Wildcats were paced in singles by its freshmen during the final two home matches. The group of Iva Bago, Maria Panaite, Palma Juhasz and Livia Cirnu carded five of K-State’s six singles wins. The freshmen on the K-State roster own a combined record this season of 41-33.

Cirnu secured the match for K-State on both days, winning in straight sets in both matches at number five singles. The rookie from Constanta, Romania, is 11-7 in her debut season and is in the midst of a team-high five-match winning streak.

For the season, K-State has been led by two-time All-American and three-time All-Big 12 selection Petra Niedermayerova. The No. 55 ranked Niedermayerova owns a team-leading record of 14-5 in singles.

Niedermayerova improved her school record for career singles wins 94-38 (.712), which includes a mark of 56-15 in from the top position in the K-State lineup. Her career singles winning percentage of .712 ranks second in program history.

Following this weekend’s matches, the Wildcats will return to the road with a stop in New York, N.Y. K-State will face No. 37 Columbia on Feb. 28 and No. 31 Memphis on March 2.

Among the ITA Rankings
In the debut of the spring 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national team rankings, Kansas State checked in at No. 55 on Jan. 2 and moved up three positions to No. 52 in the Feb. 18 ranking. The Wildcats are also represented in the national singles rankings by Petra Niedermayerova.

K-State makes its 45th appearance in the last 50 ITA national team rankings dating back to Feb. 8, 2011. This is the third straight season K-State has opened the spring schedule among the national team rankings after debuting at No. 46 in 2012.

Niedermayerova will opened her final spring season ranked No. 42 in the national ITA singles rankings and is No. 3 in ITA Central Region rankings. She is currently ranked No. 55 in the national ITA singles poll as of Feb. 11. She has now appeared in 32 consecutive national ITA singles rankings with a career-best of No. 11 in the March 26, 2013 rankings.

For the first time this season, a K-State doubles team has appeared in the ITA national doubles rankings. The duo of Niedermayerova and junior Amina St. Hill were No. 59 in the Feb. 11 listing. This is impressive considering the first time Niedermayerova and St. Hill played together in their careers came on Feb. 1 against Liberty. The duo is 3-0 this season, including a win over No. 41 Aishwarya Agrawal and Claire Yang of Fresno State on Feb. 7

Niedermayerova Rising in Career Doubles Listing
Petra Niedermayerova has put her stamp on the K-State career singles record and she will look to do the same in the K-State doubles listing as well.

The senior from Brno, Czech Republic, has notched a career doubles record of 68-44 (.607) to rank second in school history. She is the fifth player in school history to rank among the career singles and doubles wins lists. She needs eight doubles wins to secure the record.

Last season in doubles, Niedermayerova owned a mark of 27-11 (.711). The 27 victories are were a single season school record. Her winning percentage of .711 ranked sixth for a season. Paired with former Wildcat four-year letter winner and All-Big 12 selection Karla Bonacic, Niedermayerova reached the Round of 16 at the 2013 NCAA Division I Doubles Championships, while capturing the Big 12 title for number one doubles.
