MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 32 Kansas State will open the month of March this weekend in Lincoln, Neb., as the Wildcats will face No. 10 Nebraska on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The match will be contested at the Nebraska Tennis Center and K-State will look to halt a three-match skid to the Huskers.

In K-State’s last matches, the Wildcats (4-3) split a pair of 4-2 decisions, defeating No. 65 Wichita State on Feb. 23 and falling to No. 20 Purdue on Feb. 24. K-State will look to secure its first doubles point since Feb. 9 against No. 23 Tulsa. The Wildcats have dropped four straight doubles points and own a 1-3 record in that stretch.

The Wildcats received four of its six singles victories last weekend from the tandem of junior Petra Niedermayerova and freshman Ivana Kubickova. Niedermayerova notched her seventh straight win at No. 1 singles, and surpassed the 20-win mark this season (21-5) for the third straight season in her career. The junior from Brno, Czech Republic needs four singles wins to set a new career-high for singles wins in a season.

For her career, Niedermayerova is 69-28 (.711) in her career and is in sole possession of fourth place on the K-State career singles wins list. She needs one win to become the fourth player in school history with 70 career singles wins. She needs eight singles wins to move into a three-way tie for second with Petra Sedlmajerova (1999-03; 77-47) and Jessica Simosa (2001-06; 77-61). She needs 10 wins to move into a tie for first with Maria Rosenberg (2000-05; 79-54).

Kubickova, for the first time since Jan. 26-27, she registered consecutive singles wins over the weekend at No. 3 singles. Kubickova improved to 16-9 in her first season with the Wildcats and is 4-3 this spring.

Following this weekend’s match in Lincoln, K-State will travel to the state of Oklahoma for the second time this season. The Wildcats will open Big 12 action at No. 27 Oklahoma State on Friday, March 8, followed by a trip to No. 37 Oklahoma on Sunday, March 10.

Among the Campbell/ITA Rankings
In the debut of the spring 2013 Campbell/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national team rankings, Kansas State checked in at No. 67 on Jan. 3. Since the debut of those rankings, K-State has ascended to No. 32 in the Feb. 26 rankings. The Wildcats are also represented in the national singles and doubles rankings by Petra Niedermayerova, Karla Bonacic and Ivana Kubickova.

K-State has made 30 appearances in the last 35 Campbell/ITA national team rankings dating back to Feb. 8, 2011. The No. 32 ranking is the highest ranking for K-State since March 29, 2011, when the program reached a program-high of No. 31.

Niedermayerova opened the 2013 spring season ranked No. 15 in the national ITA singles rankings and retained her top position in ITA Central Region. With her No. 17 ranking in the Feb. 26 singles rankings, she has now appeared in 21 consecutive national ITA singles rankings with a career-best of No. 14 in the fall 2012 rankings.

For the first time this season, Bonacic has appeared in the national ITA singles rankings. The product of Split, Croatia, checked in at No. 94 in the Feb. 26 rankings. Her career-high ranking of No. 65 came in the spring of 2012.

In the Feb. 26 national doubles rankings, Niedermayerova appeared twice. She is ranked No. 31 with Bonacic. The duo has an 11-7 record this season, including two wins this spring over top-20 doubles teams. Niedermayerova and Bonacic have been ranked together in seven straight national ITA doubles rankings dating back to April 17, 2012. When paired together over the last two-plus seasons, the duo is 24-23. Niedermayerova owns a team-leading doubles record of 16-7 this season, while she is 49-37 in her career, while Bonacic owns a career doubles record of 50-55.

Niedermayerova also appears at No. 35 in the nation with Ivana Kubickova, after the duo advanced to the finals of the 2012 ITA Central Regional, and has tallied a 5-1 record when paired together this season. Among the 2013 ITA Central region rankings, the pair is ranked No. 3. Kubickova is second on the team with a doubles mark of 14-10.
