MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 48 Kansas State will end its 12-match road trip this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to Texas to face No. 35 TCU and No. 42 Baylor on April 5 and 7. The Wildcats enter the weekend with a three-match winning streak.
The Wildcats (7-6, 1-2 Big 12) returned to Big 12 action with a 4-3 win at KU on March 30. K-State picked up four singles wins to down the Jayhawks for the fifth straight time in the series.
For the season in singles, K-State has been led by 2012 ITA All-American Petra Niedermayerova. The junior from Brno, Czech Republic, is ranked a career-best No. 11 in the national ITA singles rankings and has registered a team-leading record of 26-6 overall including a 12-1 mark this spring and a current five-match winning streak. The 26 wins this season are a single-season high for Niedermayerova and ranks tied for third in school history for wins in a season.
The Wildcats have also been paced by senior Karla Bonacic. Playing at the number two position in the singles lineup, the product of Split, Croatia, has won three straight matches and four of her last five. Bonacic owns an overall record of 13-7 this season and is 9-4 this spring including a 2-1 mark in the Big 12.
Following this weekend’s matches in Texas, K-State returns to the Sunflower State to begin a four-match home stand to close out the 2013 spring regular season schedule. The Wildcats will host No. 15 Texas Tech on Friday, April 12 at 1 p.m., and No. 24 Texas on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m. The matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Wamego Recreation Complex in Wamego, Kan.
