Series History and Notes
K-State leads the series with Iowa State, 27-10... The Wildcats have won 18 of the last 20 meetings, including three straight, against the Cyclones... K-State is 12-3 against Iowa State in matches played in Manhattan or Wamego... The Wildcats won last year’s meeting between the schools, 4-3, on April 13, 2012 in Ames, Iowa... Take Highway 24, eastbound out of Manhattan. Drive roughly 16 miles east. Continue on Highway 24 to the east side of Wamego. Wamego Recreation Complex will be on the right. Turn right on Balderson Boulevard.


MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 52 Kansas State will conclude the 2013 regular season schedule this weekend, as the Wildcats host Iowa State on Friday at 1 p.m., and West Virginia on Sunday at 11 a.m. Both matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Wamego Recreation Complex in Wamego, Kan. The matches are free and open to the public.

If weather forces the matches to be moved indoors to Body First Tennis and Fitness Center in Manhattan, an announcement will be made through the official K-State Athletic Department Twitter feeds (@kstatesports and @kstate_gameday). Fans can also receive score updates from the weekend’s matches by following the official K-State Athletic Department Twitter gameday feed (@kstate_gameday).

Prior to the start of Sunday’s match against the Mountaineers, K-State will honor its three seniors: Karla Bonacic, Carmen Borau Ramos and Ana Gomez Aleman. The trio has combined to lead K-State to 38 team wins, including a school record 16 in the 2011 season.

The Wildcats (7-10, 1-6 Big 12) will look to halt a four-match skid this weekend and gain momentum towards the 2013 Big 12 Women’s Tennis Championships, which will take place April 25-28 in Norman, Okla. This season, K-State has been led by junior Petra Niedermayerova and Bonacic. Niedermayerova, ranked No. 16 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, owns a career-best 27-9 record this season and needs five singles victories this season to set the school record for singles wins in a season.

Bonacic is 16-8 this season, including a spring mark of 12-5 and a team-best 5-2 record in Big 12 action. During last weekend’s matches, Bonacic teamed with Niedermayerova to go 1-1 in doubles action, as the No. 24 ITA ranked duo improved to 18-10 this season. The win moved Bonacic’s career doubles record to 57-58 and tie her for eighth in school history for career doubles wins.

Among the Campbell/ITA Rankings
In the debut of the spring 2013 Campbell/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national team rankings, Kansas State checked in at No. 67 on Jan. 3. Since the debut of those rankings, K-State has ascended as high as No. 32 in the Feb. 26 rankings and has settled into No. 52 in the April 16 ranking. The Wildcats are also represented in the national singles and doubles rankings by Petra Niedermayerova, Karla Bonacic and Ivana Kubickova.

K-State has appeared in 36 of the last 41 Campbell/ITA national team rankings dating back to Feb. 8, 2011. The No. 32 ranking from Feb. 26, 2013 was the highest ranking for K-State since March 29, 2011, when the program reached a record-high of No. 31.

Niedermayerova opened the 2013 spring season ranked No. 15 in the national ITA singles rankings and retained her top position in ITA Central Region. With her current ranking of No. 16  in the April 16 singles rankings, she has now appeared in 25 consecutive national ITA singles rankings with a career-high of No. 11 in the March 26, 2013 rankings.

In the April 16 national doubles rankings, junior Petra Niedermayerova appeared twice. She is ranked No. 24 with Karla Bonacic. The duo has a team-leading 18-10 record this season, including four wins this spring over top-30 doubles teams. Niedermayerova and Bonacic have been ranked together in 11 straight national ITA doubles rankings dating back to April 17, 2012. When paired together over the last two-plus seasons, the duo is 31-26.
Niedermayerova owns a team-leading doubles record of 23-10 this season, while she is 56-40 in her career. Bonacic owns a career doubles record of 57-58, including a mark of 18-10 this season.

Niedermayerova also appears at No. 51 in the nation with Ivana Kubickova, after the duo advanced to the finals of the 2012 ITA Central Regional, and have tallied a 5-1 record when paired together this season. Among the 2013 ITA Central region rankings, the pair is ranked No. 3. Kubickova is second on the team with a doubles mark of 16-18.

Duo Strong at Home in Their Careers  
K-State’s Karla Bonacic and Petra Niedermayerova have each surpassed the 70-win mark for singles wins during their time with the Wildcats, which includes sterling marks in matches played at home in Manhattan and Wamego.

Bonacic in her four years with the Wildcats has notched a 20-8 mark in home matches, including a career-best mark of 8-2 in her sophomore season of 2010-11.

Niedermayerova, who is on the verge of becoming K-State’s career singles wins record holder, owns a 15-6 mark in matches played at home including an 8-2 record in her freshman season of 2010-11. Niedermayerova has played every match of her career from the number one position in the K-State lineup.
