MANHATTAN, Kan. – The awards and honors continue to pile up for Kansas State’s Petra Niedermayerova, as the junior was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Women’s At-Large First Team on Thursday afternoon. This marks the second straight season Niedermayerova has earned first team all-district honors from Capital One/CoSIDA.

The Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Niedermayerova, a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American and a two-time Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII At-Large First Team recipient, is currently ranked No. 15 in the ITA national singles rankings. Niedermayerova, who was a unanimous All-Big 12 singles recipient for the third time this season, owns an overall record of 30-9 (.769). Her career-high 30 wins this season rank second in school history for wins in a season and she needs two victories to set the school record for singles wins in a season.

Niedermayerova earned a seeded position into the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Singles Championships, and by doing so, is automatically rewarded with ITA All-American status for the second straight season. She is the first two-time ITA All-American in school history.

Earlier this month, Niedermayerova was named the inaugural winner of the 2013 Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award for women’s tennis. The product of Brno, Czech Republic added the honor to her pair of Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors. Niedermayerova is an economics major who boasts a 4.0 grade point average over her last two semesters and a stellar 3.96 cumulative GPA, is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete selection.

Within the economics department, Niedermayerova has been highly decorated, as she was the recipient of the 2012 Dudley Williams Sophomore Book Prize, awarded annually to two outstanding sophomores by the Beta of Kansas Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and the Duane L. and Leslee K. Cantrell Scholarship, based on outstanding academic performance & service to the economics department at K-State in 2012.

In her career on the court, Niedermayerova is 78-32 (.709) to rank second in school history for career victories. With two victories, she will set the school record for singles wins in a career and become the first player in the program’s history to reach the 80 win mark. Niedermayerova’s career singles winning percentage of .709 ranks second in school history. She owns a 51-14 career mark in dual matches, including a Big 12 mark of 21-8 from the number one position.

In combination with her results with both senior Karla Bonacic and freshman Ivana Kubickova (5-1) in the 2012-13 season, Niedermayerova set the school record for doubles victories in a season with her mark of 26-11. In her career, Niedermayerova owns a doubles mark of 59-40 (.596) to rank ninth in school history for career doubles wins.

Niedermayerova and Bonacic will travel to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, May 22-27, in Urbana, Ill. Niedermayerova will compete in both the 64-player singles championship and will team up with Bonacic for the 32-team doubles championship at the Khan Tennis Complex.
