MANHATTAN, Kan. – The trophies continue to pile up for Kansas State’s Petra Niedermayerova, as the junior was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Women’s At-Large First Team on Thursday afternoon.

Niedermayerova, an economics major with a 3.96 grade point average, is the first Wildcat to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honors and the second in the program’s history to be named to the squad in general, as Lena Philiptchak earned second team honors in 1998.

In addition to her All-American honor, Niedermayerova earned her second straight Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII At-Large First Team citation, her second straight Academic All-Big 12 First Team honor and the Big 12 Conference’s inaugural Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s tennis.

Niedermayerova ended her 2012-13 season on the court with a school record mark of 32-10 (.762) in singles play. She ended the season with her second straight appearance in the NCAA Singles Championships Round of 16 and notched wins in six of her final eight matches. For the season, she possessed a 12-8 record against Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranked singles opponents.

At the conclusion of the season, Niedermayerova was ranked No. 18 in the ITA national singles rankings and second in the ITA Central Region rankings. She collected her second straight ITA All-American honor, her second career ITA Central Region Player to Watch award and garnered her third straight unanimous All-Big 12 singles selection.

For her career, Niedermayerova secured the school record for singles wins with an 80-33 (.708) mark. Her career singles winning percentage of .708 ranks second in school history.

In combination with her doubles results with both Karla Bonacic (22-11) and freshman Ivana Kubickova (5-1), Niedermayerova secured the school record for doubles victories in a season in 2012-13 with her mark of 27-12 (.692). The tandem of Bonacic and Niedermayerova became the first K-State doubles team to play in the NCAA Doubles Championships and the duo reached the Round of 16 aiding in their final ITA national doubles ranking of No. 22 and fourth in the ITA Central Region. Niedermayerova was one of 13 women in the nation to appear on the final ITA national singles and doubles rankings.

In her career, Niedermayerova owns a doubles mark of 60-41 (.594) to rank tied for eighth in school history for career doubles wins.

Following a 10-11 season in the spring of 2013, the Wildcats will return a pair of letterwinners for the 2013-14 season, as Niedermayerova and junior Amina St. Hill will look to lead a young quintet. K-State head coach Steve Bietau signed five student-athletes for the 2013-14 season. The five student-athletes who signed are: Iva Bago, Liv Cirnu, Palma Juhasz, Tegan Louw and Maria Panaite. All five signees will be on campus as freshmen and will take part in the fall 2013 schedule.
