MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State junior-to-be Petra Niedermayerova added another academic honor to her already impressive trophy case, as she earned her second straight Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete honor. This is the 15th time a Wildcat has earned the honor and the sixth time K-State has had a student-athlete earn the distinction twice in her career.

Niedermayerova adds Monday’s 2012 ITA Scholar-Athlete honor to her Capital One Academic All-District VII First Team honor and her Academic All-Big 12 First Team honor all garnered during the 2012 season. Niedermayerova was the fourth K-State women’s tennis student-athlete to earn Academic All-District VII honors and the first since Jessica Simosa in the 2006 season.

As an economics major, Niedermayerova boasts a 3.94 grade point average. Within the economics department, she has been highly decorated, as she was the recipient of the Dudley Williams Sophomore Book Prize, awarded annually to two outstanding sophomores by the Beta of Kansas Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and the Duane L. and Leslee K. Cantrell Scholarship, based on outstanding academic performance and service to the economics department at K-State.

On the court, Niedermayerova earned 2012 ITA All-American status by reaching the round of 16 at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women’s Singles Championships. In the final 2012 Campbell/ITA national singles rankings, Niedermayerova checked in at No. 26 and was the top player in the ITA Central Region rankings for the second straight season. Within the Big 12 to open the 2012-13 season, Niedermayerova will be the top ranked returning player.

Niedermayerova became the third ITA All-American in the program’s history. She joined Karina Kuregian (1994) and Yana Dorodnova (1998) as the only ITA All-Americans in K-State history. Niedermayerova added her ITA All-American honor to her 2012 All-Big 12 honors in both singles and doubles action.

For the 2011-12 season, Niedermayerova finished with an overall record of 24-13 (.649) including a 9-12 mark against ranked opponents. The product of Brno, Czech Republic, tied her career-high for wins in a season and is tied for fourth in school history for wins in a season.

For her career, Niedermayerova is 48-23 (.676) including a 16-14 mark against ITA ranked foes. Niedermayerova’s career singles winning percentage of .676 ranks third in school history. With 15 wins in the 2012-13 season, Niedermayerova will tie for sixth in school history for career victories.
