All Time Letterwinners
K-State Women's Tennis has produced over 100 letterwinners in its brief history, including many from all around the world. Mary Lou Kultgen, 1976-78 , was the first letterwinner from K-State Tennis, and the tradition continues today.
The Kansas State Women's Tennis team played its first season in 1973 under coach Bev Yenzer. Yenzer guided the team to an overall 6-3 record that first year. Since then, the Wildcats have made three team NCAA Tournament appearances and five individual NCAA Tournament appearances. The tennis team has also had six singles champions, five doubles champions, and two Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American players.
Current coach Steve Bietau concluded his 29th season as coach of the Wildcats in 2013. Bietau eclipsed the 200-win plateau in 2006 and his teams have won 265 dual matches in his 29 seasons as the leader of the Kansas State program.
His 2011 squad set the school record for wins in a season with a 16-7 mark, which was the ninth season in Bietau's tenure that the Wildcats finished with a winning record. The 2011 Wildcats also went 6-5 in Big 12 competition and finished with the most home victories since the 2006 campaign and the most road wins since the 2003 season. Kansas State spent 14 weeks ranked in the ITA polls, including the highest ranking in school history of No. 31 on March 29. The Wildcats finished the season ranked No. 46 in the nation.
In 2003, the Wildcats had the best season of any Bietau team and posted the second-most victories in school history with 15 and a record-tying seven Big 12 wins en route to reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. This appearance marked the third time the Wildcats have advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
The success in 2003 was nothing new for Bietau, who has twice been named the conference Coach of the Year (1989, 2000) and ITA Central Region Coach of the Year (1990, 1996) during his stay in Manhattan.
