AS A FRESHMAN (2001):
Saw action in 23 matches and 67 games as a defensive specialist... Made five starts during the year... Played in 15 straight matches to start the season... Totaled 120 digs during the season for an average of 1.79 per game... Posted four double-digit dig totals, including a season-best 15 against Iowa State (Oct. 10)... Collected five or more digs in 12 matches... Saw her first action of the year against No. 5 Hawaii (Aug. 31) at the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Classic... Tallied four digs in the five-game loss to the Rainbow Wahine... Also played a key defensive role in the Wildcats' other two matches in the tournament against No. 7 UCLA (eight digs) and Michigan (six digs)... Turned in her first career double-digit dig total with 12 against Houston at the Wildcat Classic on Sept. 8... Also tallied her first career service ace against the Cougars... Added seven digs and another ace against Washington State in the final of the tournament... Notched her second double-digit dig performance (10) and first in a Big 12 match in a five-game victory over Missouri (Sept. 26)... Had nine digs in a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Nebraska (Oct. 1)... Added another nine digs two days later in a three-game sweep of archrival Kansas (Oct. 3)... Tied her season-high with 12 digs at Colorado (Oct. 6)... Established her career-high four days later with 15 digs against the Cyclones... Scored five digs in a 3-0 win at Baylor (Nov. 14).
AT SANTA FE TRAIL HIGH SCHOOL (1997-2001):
Letterwinner in volleyball three years at Santa Fe Trail High School in Carbondale, Kan. ... Three-year starter for the Chargers... As a senior, she earned numerous honors in volleyball, including all-state and all-league accolades for the second straight season... Also named to the all-state tournament team as a junior... Selected to the Lawrence Journal-World All-Area team as a sophomore and junior... Lettered four years in softball and two years in basketball... Named honorable all-state and all-league as a junior in basketball... Honored as a Journal-World all-area selection in basketball... Earned all-state accolades in softball the past three years and all-league honors all four years... Named to the all-class, all-state team as a senior on the softball diamond... Coached in volleyball by Susan Averill, who recently retired with the fourth-most wins (656) in state history.
Jami Rochelle Sleichter was born June 13, 1982, in Topeka, Kan. ... The daughter of Rex and Sandy Sleichter... The youngest of three children... Has two brothers, Quinton, 23, and Jimmy, 21... Member of the National Honor Society... Is majoring in nutrition exercise.
