Kansas State Coach and Player Quotes
Head Coach Suzie Fritz
On how the team played…
“I am unsatisfied as always. I think we need to have to be cleaner. They put an enormous amount of pressure on us with their serving. Saint Mary’s did the same thing (Thursday). We felt like we were prepared for it, but when it came right down to it, we were not as prepared. In the long run it will be good for us to have somebody get after us and recover from it. They served with incredible pace, and it took us awhile to make that adjustment. We did a nice job of staying low error for the most part. It did not look pretty, but we did not hurt ourselves too often. We just kept playing until we could get some momentum, and I thought we did not catch the momentum until the third. I am unsatisfied.”

On Pelger’s play in the third …
“Some of it is just settling down on your side and not panicking because somebody put a couple of points on you, but just settling down and trying to stay focused on the process on your side of the net. We were playing tight a good portion of the match. I do not know if we did not expect that we were going to have to get after it. I wish our response at the beginning of the match was more favorable. I wish we would have come out firing and just be who we are, playing to our ability, and not wait to get pressed before we turn it up. We have the ability to turn it up, and I like that, I just wish that we could do that early in the match and not wait for somebody to put it on us.”

On Elle Brainard’s presence for Utah State …
“She is a big blocking presence, and takes up a lot of space. Sometimes, as a good attacker over time you will beat a good blocker. That is just the way that it is, and you have to attack with purpose. When you have a big presence in front of you, you have to attack it with purpose, and I thought early on we were challenging her too much instead of trying to navigate the block a bit better. See what is front of you. Sometimes as an attacker, you need to take what they are going to give you.  A block is going to take away a certain point. The defense behind it is going to try and dig around it. So we would much rather take our chances hitting at the defender, than challenging the block, and I thought we were not making smart swings, or great attack choices. ”

Junior Middle Blocker Kaitlynn Pelger
On the 9-0 start to the season …
“It is awesome, a 9-0 start. I am at a loss for words right now, but we still want to get better. We did not play to our best ability tonight, which sounds funny since we won in three games, but we want to do more than just win. We want to be better. This coming week we are facing some tough teams, so we are supper excited”
