NORMAN, Okla. – K-State volleyball opened Big 12 Conference play on the road Wednesday looking to end a losing streak in McCasland Field House against the Oklahoma Sooners. The Wildcats could not find a way to slow the Sooners as Oklahoma hit .260 for the match and hand No. 11 K-State its first loss of the season at 25-27, 19-25, 21-25. The loss halts the best start to a season in school history at 12 wins and its K-State’s fourth straight loss on Oklahoma’s home floor.

The Wildcats were led by Kaitlynn Pelger with 13 kills on the night with Lilla Porubek posting 11. It was not enough, as Oklahoma (12-3, 1-0) saw the combination of Morgan Reynolds, Tara Dunn and Sallie McLaurin join forces for 30 kills. K-State (12-1, 0-1) hit into 11 OU blocks as well to hit just .155.

Pelger kept her hot hand as she fired out nine kills in the first set while hitting .571 and Dakota Kaufman added four kills on five swings. It was not enough, however, as the Sooners were very efficient as a team hitting .400 to get the win 27-25. Morgan Reynolds led the way with six kills on nine swings

The Sooners took the momentum they gained in the first set and jumped to an early lead at 6-2 and used a 3-0 run later to lead by as many as nine points at 16-7. K-State would battle back with a 3-0 run to make it 13-18 after a pair of kills from Porubek and an ace from Pelger. The Wildcats would not be able to get closer than five points down the stretch as their runs would come up short allowing OU to get the win 25-19 and take a 2-0 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

Oklahoma jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the third set thanks to three aces from Julia Doyle. The Wildcats would find a way to slow the Sooners with four blocks during a 6-1 run to pull within two points. OU responded with three quick points to again lead by five points. K-State got kills from Kathleen Ludwig to edge closer, but the lead was too much to overcome and Oklahoma held off the Wildcats 25-21 in the final set to get the win and hand K-State its first loss of the season.
