Kansas State Coach and Player Quotes
Head Coach Suzie Fritz
On the match …
“We need to take care of opportunities. The momentum changed going into the third. It would have been a nice situation going 1-1 against Texas into the third versus going down 2-0 and coming back in the third. They are not a team that will allow you to make a lot of unforced errors. We made some untimely errors in the third, and untimely serve errors in the second. You have to play really solid, and they put a lot of pressure on you with the block. You have to slow them down and turn them on themselves, and we did not.”

On if errors were a snowball effect…
“I think what happens is that when things start not going your way, you start to press. So maybe, I think that is snowballing when you press and one error leads to another, and when some people try to do too much. Just staying in what we do, trusting the system, and trusting each other. That will work if we just settle in.”

On positives of the match…
“I think we scrapped. I think defensively we slowed (Bailey) Webster down, which is something that we knew we needed to do, but there were others that got away from us. I thought defensively we made some nice plays. Alex (Muff) had a pretty good night, and we made some nice adjustments. We needed to win the serve and pass battle, to win in transition, and we did not do either.”

Senior Middle Blocker Alex Muff
On the second set…
“It was definitely difficult against a team like this that is very powerful. They hit really hard and do a lot of athletic things. It is really important to get on top when we had the chance. With a little bit of momentum in the second set, if we would have won I think we would have come out in the third set a little bit more ready, and with a little bit more energy. Against a good team, you have to do all of the little things well and still play good overall.”

On playing a top team like Texas…
“I think it is a learning experience no matter what team you are playing, and with them being a top 10 team, it gives us an idea of where we are overall. Those are the kind of teams that we will meet in the NCAA tournament. So we are going to have to play better than that to beat them.”

Senior Setter Caitlyn Donahue
On thoughts on the game…
“A little bit disappointed, but I am proud of how my team played, especially in games one and two. We knew we had to beat them by holding them in first swing and playing with them in transition. I think we did that at times, but I do not think we did it enough. Texas is a very powerful, physical team. To play with them, we need to do the little things right on our side. which means pass well, serve well, dig well, and do things that do not necessarily require power.”

On frustration of the second set…
“I thought we had it, but then we made a few mistakes on our side of the net. Having back-to-back mistakes against a really good team, we cannot have more than one error especially.”
