Texas Tech vs. K-State

Post-Match Quotes

Head Coach Suzie Fritz

On the balance K-State’s offense against Texas Tech …

“I think we are trying to get more balance. I think the move with Dakota (Kaufman) to the right side was a move to address the balance. We felt like she could get us more swings and kills over there. It was an effective and productive change for the team.”

On the play of her team in the transition game…

“We have been working on our transition game a lot right now. To be honest, we kind of went away from offense and focused more on other things that we are good at. Sometimes when you work in transition, it is a very unpredictable thing. You are out of system and sometimes hitting in bad situations makes you better. We have to keep working to stay ahead of the play.”

On tonight’s performance against Texas Tech…

“I liked everything about my team tonight. They served and passed at a high level. The transition game was tight. We are getting our kill-percentage up and becoming consistent. The coaches have been on them and asking more of them, so I am proud of how the team responded.”

Senior Middle Blocker Kaitlynn Pelger

On the efforts of K-State’s outside hitters …

“This week, we put a lot of outside hitter work in. They have been working really hard to figure out who is going to be where. They are all working really hard to earn a spot and get those extra kills that we need. We had the best week of practice that we have had this season and our outside hitters did exactly what we needed them to do tonight.”

On tonight’s performance against Texas Tech…

“Texas Tech is a very bunch-read team, which means that the three blockers in the front are very tight and that leaves the pin-hitters tons and tons of line to take. That is exactly what they did; they saw what they needed to hit, got great touches, killed a ton of balls and that is exactly what we needed from them tonight.”

On picking up a much-needed win at home…

“I absolutely love playing in Ahearn. It is unlike any other place that I have played at because our crowd really gets us going. It is just so rewarding that we have a crowd like that. They get us so enthused and I am thankful for them. I am so happy that we got the win tonight.”

Senior Outside Hitter Dakota Kaufman

Qn finding balance as an offense…

“It was nice having Wednesday off because we got to work towards just this game and we really, really focused on first swing and getting a lot of kills from everybody.  The outsides worked really hard on Tuesday and then the middles came in and worked really hard on Wednesday, so we just had really great practices leading up to this game.”

On the impact of tonight’s win over Texas Tech…

“We needed this win badly just to get our confidence level back up. It always feels good to win, and we just want to focus on how we play, but most of all, we just want to win.”
