#25 Iowa State vs. K-State

Post-Match Quotes

Head Coach Suzie Fritz

On winning on Senior Night…
“That is what you are constantly working to be, the team that you are capable of being, and that [tonight] is the team that we are capable of being. I thought we played extremely well. We put a lot of pressure on them from the service line. We were very much on task at the net. I thought we got our hands on lots of balls and played tenacious defense, killed it when we needed to. I thought we played well in all phases.”

On what it is like losing the six seniors…
“It is never easy. It is pretty much the worse night of the year for me in some ways. You are so proud of them and so excited for what is next for them. If we kept them all then we would have 86 kids on the team and you cannot do that either. So they have to go on and start their lives, and get out of school. They are just kind of getting started, but to be part of that process with them is extraordinary.”

On the play of the team in the third set…
“[Iowa State] is a good volleyball team. Being able to win in three is a tremendous win. I think we felt pretty strongly that they were not going away in the third set; that they were going to get better as they went on. We kept it close enough so that we could manage the ebbs and flows and manage the momentum swings, and we took advantage of things when we got them.”

Senior Middle Blocker Kaitlynn Pelger
On winning on Senior Night…
“It was awesome. We kind of talked about before the game as seniors what we wanted to end the season, and how we wanted to play our last game. Everyone said that we wanted to win. We wanted to play hard, and we wanted to have fun. We did all of that.”

On she felt when they went down in the third set…
“This whole season with home games, I felt like we had that fight in us. Unfortunately we did not have that on the road. When we are at home and down, we are very comfortable. We do not get very uncomfortable at home. The crowd cheers us on. We have a lot of momentum, even when we are down. We use that to our advantage, and knew that is what we were good at.”

On the non-seniors helping to get the win…
“Those girls are going to be great. They have a great career ahead of them. I was honored to play with them. They did awesome. I never have doubts in them. I know they can get it done when they need to get it done and they did.”

Redshirt Junior Outside Hitter Chelsea Keating
On winning for the seniors…
“It was great. I came in with these girls. I redshirted a year. They are all my friends. It is great to see them like this. I am going to miss them, but it is great that they won their last game.”
