260 Wildcats Named to Fall Big 12 Honor Roll

K-State Athletics

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Twelve K-State volleyball student-athletes were named to the Fall 2013 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, the conference announced. The dozen volleyball representatives were among 260 Wildcats who achieved a 3.0 grade point average or higher during the semester.

The 12 K-State volleyball student-athletes on the Fall 2013 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll included seniors Courtney Cook (Fremont, Neb.), Dakota Kaufman (Hillsboro, Kan.), Kaitlynn Pelger (Olathe, Kan.) and Lilla Porubek (Budapest, Hungary); juniors Taylor Johnson (Grand Island, Neb.) and Gina Madonia (Glen Ellyn, Ill.); sophomores Dallas Gardner (Lenexa, Kan.) and Katie Reininger (Colorado Springs, Colo.); redshirt freshman Katie Brand (Grand Island, Neb.); freshmen Mattie Batchelder (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Kersten Kober (Southlake, Texas) and Brookelyn Langhaim (Highland, Utah).

Cook, Johnson, Kober and Porubek each had a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The 260 student-athletes earning the recognition marked a new high since Athletic Director John Currie took the reins of K-State Athletics in the summer of 2009. K-State saw an improvement of 24 student-athletes from the Spring 2013 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, as 236 Wildcats received recognition in early June of 2013.

Of the 260 K-State student-athletes earning the citation for their academic excellence, 46 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the spring semester. K-State, which has ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 in graduation rate for all student-athletes four of the last six years, has placed 200 or more student-athletes on the honor roll for 12 straight semesters. K-State continues to rank among the league's best in terms of academic success as it continues to set a national standard in terms of APR as all programs are currently well above the required NCAA standard.

The rowing and football teams led all Wildcat athletic teams with 63 and 51 honorees, respectively, on the honor roll. Other total student-athletes on the honor roll include: equestrian (30), women's track (28), men's track (22), baseball (17), volleyball (12), men's golf (10), women's basketball (8), women's golf (7), men's basketball (6), and women's tennis (6).
