MANHATTAN, Kan. - After reaching the Regional Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament this season and ranking No. 22 in the final AVCA Coaches Poll, the Kansas State volleyball team has begun preparations for the 2012 season. Spring practices are underway, and the Wildcats will participate in two spring tournaments and play two NCAA Tournament teams in scrimmages to get ready for this fall.
The Wildcats open their spring schedule by hosting a tournament at Blue Valley West High School. The tournament will include Arkansas State, Saint Louis, Creighton and NCAA Tournament team Missouri State. K-State will play five matches in one day hosting the tournament.
K-State will then have a chance to test itself against one of the top teams in the nation from 2011 when the Wildcats take on the Illinois Fighting Illini. K-State and Illinois will play a pair of scrimmages at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the campus of Truman State in Kirksville, Mo.
The final tournament of the spring will be April 21 at Nebraska-Kearney. The Wildcats will take on Northern Colorado, Wyoming, Creighton and Kansas in addition to host UN-Kearney.
K-State will close its spring schedule with a pair of scrimmages against the Missouri Tigers in conjunction with the K-State Volleyball Coaches Clinic on April 28. The Wildcats and Tigers will play at 10 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. at Ahearn Field House during the Coaches Clinic with members of the Missouri coaching staff serving as guest lecturers during a Q&A session at the camp.
