MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State volleyball has been hard at work in the gym during spring practices for a few weeks now and the Wildcats put that work to the test in competition for the first time this weekend. The Wildcats co-hosted a tournament with UMKC in Kansas City on Saturday and came away with a 9-1 record in 10 sets played.

The Wildcats defeated Arkansas, UMKC, St. Louis and Drake 2-0 and split two sets with Missouri State while the team was testing out a number of different lineups and getting two setters their first action on the court in competition.

“We played pretty well for the first competition of the spring,” said K-State Head Coach Suzie Fritz. “We were able to play many different lineups, which allowed us to evaluate players in different positions.”

Setters Katie Brand and Bailey Shurbet helped direct the Wildcats to a hitting percentage of .260 for the weekend, and senior-to-be Lilla Porubek was impressive hitting .490 from her outside hitter position.

K-State will be back in the gym this week for more practices before its next spring scrimmage against Washburn. The Wildcats will host Washburn on April 17 in the upper gym at Ahearn Field House. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. and fans are invited to watch.
