Vogel, who received the award at the 17th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 26, arrives at K-State with an award-laden high school career. During her senior year at Clearwater High School, Vogel was named the Kansas Class 4A Division II Player of the Year after helping the Indians win the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League (AVCTL) championship and a runner-up finish at the sub-state tournament.
Over the course of her high school career, Vogel amassed 1,330 kills, 686 digs, 167 blocks, and 75 aces. The outside hitter was named Class 4A First Team twice, AVCTL MVP twice, and All-AVCTL First Team three times. She also earned All-AVCTL honorable mention honors as a freshman.
In addition to lettering in volleyball for four years, Vogel lettered in softball and basketball at Clearwater. The Wichita native was tabbed to the Class 4A All-State First Team in basketball in 2012 and 2013 as well as Class 4A Division II MVP in 2013. In softball, Vogel was twice named All-AVCTL First Team and earned league MVP honors in 2013.
The honor roll student, who also participated in the high school’s marching band drumline for three years, graduated first in her class.
The annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet recognizes the achievements and dedication of local youth, high school, college and professional athletes and coaches. Vogel was selected among a group of three finalists for the organization’s top high school honor. Her sister, Tricia who played softball at Emporia State, won the award in 2010.
Vogel is one of the six Wildcat freshmen that make up the No. 27 recruiting class in the nation, according to PrepVolleyball.com. The freshmen join seven returners, four redshirts, and three transfers to make up the 2014 roster.
