MANHATTAN, Kan. - Coming off a 3-1 week in which the Wildcats capped the four-matches-in-five-days stretch with a 3-2 comeback win over then-#23 and previously undefeated Cal, K-State will head east for four matches over 48 hours this weekend.

The 9-1 Wildcats are led by senior Kaitlynn Pelger, coming off her second tournament MVP award of the season last weekend, and redshirt freshman setter Katie Brand, who earned the Big 12 Rookie of the Week this past Monday for the week of September 9. Both players have double-doubles in their last two matches as Pelger had 16 kills and 15 digs against Cal while Brand had 50 assists - matching her career-high - and 13 digs against the Golden Bears.

The Wildcats continued to receive votes in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll this week, picking up 40 points in the September 16 edition - up from last week's 31 points. K-State has received votes in each of the four polls this season.

What is powering the Wildcats so far this season? Blocks. K-State has eight or more blocks in eight of their 10 matches this season, including 16.0 against Cal. The Wildcats are fifth in the Big 12 and 43rd in the country with 2.58 blocks per set. Against Cal, the Wildcats had 10.0 team blocks over the second and third sets, helping K-State capture wins in the two sets and build a 2-1 advantage in the match.

K-State faces the Southeastern Conference's Arkansas to start the week as well as its stint in the Arkansas Invitational. The meeting between the Razorbacks and Wildcats will be the fourth time this season Arkansas has played a team from the Big 12. Arkansas split a home-and-home series with Kansas - both matches were decided in five sets - while Oklahoma swept the Razorbacks back on September 3 in Norman.

For the first time this season, the Wildcats will play back-to-back matches on the same day as they take on Saint Louis and South Alabama at 1 and 4:30 pm CT, respectively, on Saturday, September 21. The two teams are a combined 8-12. Saint Louis snapped a five-match losing streak with a win over Bradley to end the Billiken Challenge last Saturday. South Alabama, meanwhile, lost to Alabama (3-1) on September 14 and will face Jackson State on September 17 before entering the Arkansas Invitational.

The September 22 match at Missouri State not only wraps up the weekend for K-State, but it also culminates the Wildcats' nonconference regular season schedule for 2013. The 8-3 Bears should provide a nice test for the Wildcats before K-State's exhibition match against the Italian U-23 National Team on September 24 in Ahearn Field House and the Big 12 opener at West Virginia on September 27.

Of Note: Head coach Suzie Fritz is closing in on 250 career wins. K-State's all-time winningest coach enters this week with 247 victories over 13 seasons ... Katie Brand's Rookie of the Week award was the first weekly award for a Wildcat this season. She is the third K-State player to earn the Big 12's rookie honor in program history. It is also the 27th time a Wildcat has taken home a Big 12 weekly award since Fritz took over as head coach in 2001 ... Saturday's win over Cal in five sets improved K-State's record to 4-0 in five set matches this season. The Wildcats are 18-1 in their last 19 five-set matches since 2010 ... Taylor Johnson leads K-State with 1.12 blocks per set. Natali Jones, although she does not have enough sets played to qualify, is averaging 1.38 blocks per set.
