Texas Tech at K-State Notes
The Wildcats are averaging over 2,100 fans per match in Ahearn Field House this season, but Saturday expects to have much more than that. It's "Pack the Field House," meaning tickets are $1. Plus, hot dogs are $1 each and the first 200 fans will receive pink "Cats for the Cure" t-shirts.
Cheap ticket? Check. America's favorite food item? Check. Free t-shirt that promotes a worthy cause? Without-a-doubt check.
K-State fans will see the Wildcats take on Big 12 foe, the Red Raiders of Texas Tech, on October 19 at 7 pm. Texas Tech enters raucous Ahearn Field House coming off a straight-sets loss to #23 Kansas in Lubbock this past Wednesday. The Red Raiders' lone win this season in the Big 12 was a five-set victory at TCU on Oct. 12.
Texas Tech is second-to-last in conference-only matches in hitting percentage (.160) and opponent hitting percentage (.261) while it is last in kills (11.27) and blocks (1.23) per set. K-State, meanwhile, is third in blocks (2.55), fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.199), seventh in kills (12.47) and last in hitting percentage (.134).
K-State is 29-9 all-time against Texas Tech, including a 17-1 record against the Red Raiders in Ahearn Field House. The only loss by the Wildcats to the Red Raiders in Manhattan in program history was back in 2004.
Last year's win by Texas Tech in Lubbock snapped K-State's 15-match winning streak over the Red Raiders. Saturday is the first opportunity for K-State to avenge the loss in the last meeting against Texas Tech.
This Saturday's match can also be seen live on K-StateHD.TV, starting with K-State Gameday at 6:30 pm. Rob Voelker will call the action for both K-StateHD.TV and on the radio on KMAN 1350. Notes: Kaitlynn Pelger is one kill away from tying Yolanda Young (1993-96) on K-State's all-time career kills list. Pelger enters Saturday with 1,393 kills over 402 career sets. Pelger's 3.47 kills per set for her career is better than Young's 3.24 kills per set average ... Redshirt freshman Katie Brand is the only Big 12 player to average 10+ assists and 1 or more blocks per set in conference-only matches ... With nine more blocks in their last match at Oklahoma, the Wildcats remain second in the Big 12 and 21st in the country with 2.74 blocks per set over the entire season ... K-State is 14-4 in the second set of matches this season, the best such mark in the Big 12 ...
