K-State at Texas Tech Notes
Of K-State's remaining seven matches this season, four are on the road. First up over the stretch is a trip to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech on Wednesday, November 6.
The 6 pm match will be the second meeting between the two programs this season. K-State swept the Red Raiders at home on oct. 19. The Wildcats limited Texas Tech to a .175 hitting percentage while also out-pacing the Red Raiders in kills, assists, digs and blocks.
K-State enters Wednesday coming off a sweep of then-#25 Oklahoma in a rare Sunday match. The contest, rescheduled due to travel complications for the Sooners on Oct. 30, exhibited no rust by the Wildcats from their longest in-season layoff since 2002. Led by a combined 30 kills from seniors Kaitlynn Pelger and Courtney Traxson, the Wildcats claimed their first win against the Sooners since 2011.
As seen several times this year, K-State's strong block was on display against Oklahoma. The Wildcats had 11.0 team blocks, with junior Chelsea Keating leading the way with a career-high five blocks, including two solo stuffs. K-State is first in the Big 12 with 2.76 blocks per set over the entire season.
Texas Tech, meanwhile, is in the midst of a six-match losing streak, including three defeats at home. The Red Raiders have not won a home match since mid-September and are winless against Big 12 opponents on their home court this season.
The last meeting between K-State and Texas Tech in Lubbock was disappointing for the Wildcats. The Red Raiders beat K-State - which was ranked No. 20 in the nation - in four sets on Nov. 17 of last season. K-State has won 16 of the last 17 meetings, though, against Texas Tech and 10 of the last 11 matchups in Lubbock.
