West Virginia vs K-State Notes
K-State volleyball and West Virginia will meet in Ahearn Field House on Saturday, November 9 at 7 pm, the second meeting between the two programs this season but first matchup in Manhattan in over 400 days.
K-State is 7-2 on its home court this season, including three wins against Big 12 foes. The Wildcats, however, are coming off a four-set loss at Texas Tech this past Wednesday. The Wildcats are looking to avenge this week's defeat as well as a loss to the Mountaineers earlier this season to open the Big 12 schedule.
On September 27, coming off a 12-1 nonconference record and knocking on the door of the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll, the Wildcats' trip to Morgantown was the first ever loss to West Virginia as well as the Mountaineers first win in the Big 12 in program history.
K-State swept West Virginia in both matchups in 2012, including a 25-8, 25-19, 25-17 victory in late September in Manhattan. Last year's home win against the Mountaineers was one of five victories in Ahearn Field House against Big 12 opponents.
West Virginia enters Saturday's match having lost five of its last six matches, including a 3-0 loss to #24 Kansas in Lawrence this past Wednesday and a defeat to nonconference foe and in-state rival Marshall on Oct. 29. Of the Mountaineers' three conference wins this season, two are against Texas Tech.
While K-State has one of the Big 12's top freshmen in setter Katie Brand, West Virginia also features one of the conference's top performing first-year players, Jordan Anderson. The Texas native, who did not play against K-State earlier this season, leads the Big 12 in kills per set (4.10). Brand and Anderson are tied for the lead in the Big 12 with 10 double-doubles, and both had a double-double in their team's last match.
Tickets for the West Virginia match are available. It is Wildcat Weekend, meaning volleyball tickets are $3 for those that show their men's or women's basketball ticket from Nov. 8 at the Ahearn Field House ticket window.
Saturday's match can be watched on K-StateHD.TV or heard on KMAN 1350 or k-statesports.com. Rob Voelker will call the action on all platforms. Live stats will be available at k-statesports.com and Twitter updates will be provided by @kstate_gameday.
