The "Big Cats"
K-State Big Cats are a student entertainment group that wear specially designed uniforms and perform on stilts. The ability to juggle is recommended. Big Cats provide an entertaining, fun atmosphere at KSU athletic events. Tryouts: Members are selected in late April and in late August if positions are available in conjunction with the cheer squad tryouts. Current K-State students must attach a current unofficial transcript to the spirit squad application, showing a semester and cumulative 2.0 GPA. Transfer students and incoming freshman must attach a current transcript to the spirit squad application, showing a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Duties: Perform at tailgate and parking lot functions and events for football games. Perform during pre-game shows for football and basketball games. Perform at other athletic events when deemed appropriate by athletic director. Requirements: Must be enrolled in 12 credit hours per semester (both fall and spring) and maintain 2.0 GPA, semester (regular session, excluding intersession course) and cumulative.
Skills: Interested candidates will need to possess the ability to get people involved, while performing on stilts. They must also be able to get in front of a crowd and entertain to create enthusiasm. Each participant must be very outgoing and in good physical condition. Liability: Each participant must have medical insurance and must sign a medical form. Each participant is required to wear helmets provided by the Athletic Department. Once selected for the squad, members will need to obtain a physical. Benefits: Each participant will be provided free admission to football, basketball, and volleyball games. Uniform: Uniform (pant, cape, coat), stilts, and helmet will be provided by the Athletic Department, but at the responsibility of the participant for the "up keep" and to return the uniform clean at the end of the year. T-shirt furnished for the member to keep. Scholarships: None available. |
