MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State’s Laurie Koehn was recently named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII Women’s Basketball First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). A senior guard from Hesston, Kan., Koehn holds an impressive 3.97 cumulative grade-point average in elementary education. She has been selected three times in her career as an academic all-district first teamer (2003, 2004 and 2005). Last season as a junior, Koehn became the first women’s basketball player in school history to be named a first team CoSIDA Academic All-American. She is a two-time first team Academic All-Big 12 honoree and nine-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll student. As a first team all-district pick, Koehn will move on to the national ballot. She currently ranks fourth all-time among NCAA career three-point shooters (359) and holds the school and Big 12 Conference record for most three-pointers made in a career. Koehn also ranks sixth all-time in career scoring (1,607) and first all-time in career three-point attempts (860) at K-State. She needs 33 more threes to break the NCAA all-time record held by BYU's Erin Thorn (391). Senior teammates Megan Mahoney (Sturgis, S.D.) and Kendra Wecker (Marysville, Kan.) were selected to the academic all-district second team. Mahoney is a family studies and human services major with a 3.75 GPA, while Wecker is an electronic journalism major with a 3.45 GPA. Both have been honored as first team Academic All-Big 12 twice and Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll students. This is the third academic all-district second team honor for Wecker, while the first for Mahoney. One of the top five players in the country, Wecker is currently averaging a conference-leading 21.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. She ranks second all-time in career scoring (2,241) and second all-time in career rebounding (988) at K-State. Mahoney is two assists away from becoming the school’s all-time assists leader (561). She ranks 13th all-time in career scoring (1,235) and sixth all-time in career rebounding (766). Overall, Kansas State led the way with three honorees, while SW Missouri State and North Dakota State each had two.
