Taylor Latimer - Women’s Track & Field

Latimer, a sophomore from Valley Center, Kan., claimed the individual title in the women’s shot put over the weekend at the Big 12 Championship. She put together one of the most dominant performances on Saturday, recording a throw of 17.74m/58-02.50 on her second attempt to take the early lead. The big throw held off the competition and helped secure her first Big 12 individual title. Latimer's throw is just short of the K-State school record in the event of 17.75m/58-03 set by Dani Winters in 2015. The K-State women placed second at the meet. The NCAA West Preliminary will start on May 23 in Sacramento, Calif.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS

Ethan Powell - Men’s Track & Field

Powell, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., finished sixth in the men’s 10,000 meters over the weekend at the Big 12 Championship. He made history on Friday evening, running the fifth-fastest 10,000 meter time in K-State outdoor history. Powell ran a controlled race that led to a sixth-place finish in 29:55.00, which was the fastest K-State men’s 10k time since 2005. He recorded four top-2 finishes during the outdoor season, including a first place finish in the men’s 5,000 meters at the Michael Johnson Invitational. The K-State men placed fourth at the meet. The NCAA West Preliminary will start on May 23 in Sacramento, Calif.

Terrence Spurlin - Baseball

Spurlin, a sophomore from Cypress, Texas, was named Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The 6-foot-1 first baseman produced back-to-back three-hit games in the Wildcats' three-game series with West Virginia over the weekend. Spurlin hit two home runs and drove in four in an 8-6 win over the Mountaineers on Saturday before a 3-for-4 effort in Sunday's finale. Spurlin finished the week with a slash line of .545/.600/1.091 and six runs batted in, leading the Big 12 in average and slugging percentage. After a 2-2 week, the Cats finish the season on the road with a three-game series at Kansas.
