‘It’s Not Over Until It’s Over’

One day after Kansas State hit a Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament record 17 3-pointers to beat Cincinnati, the 12th-seeded Wildcats used some of their most stifling defense in recent memory to fuel a 58-51 comeback victory that bounced No. 5-seed and 21st-ranked Texas Tech out of the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

A New Record to Begin a New Season

After watching his team scorch the nets from long range better than any team in the history of the Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournament and witnessing the continued growth of the nation's youngest Power 4 squad as No. 12 seed Kansas State coasted to a 91-66 victory over No. 13-seed Cincinnati on Wednesday, K-State head coach Jeff Mittie said, "That was a lot of fun to watch."

Running with a Sense of Honor

When he was in the seventh grade, Nen Matlock ran the 400-meter dash in 56.0 seconds. He thought that was outstanding. In the eighth grade, he ran it in 50.0 seconds. Now he thought he had a chance to go places. But it was during his sophomore year at Mill Valley High School in Shawnee, Kansas, when Matlock won the 2021 KSHSAA 5A 400-meter and 800-meter state championships, that he not only further opened his eyes — but those eager eyes of colleges across the country.

Growing Her Game Every Day

She sits in a familiar setting behind a table and in front of a purple back drop wearing her white No. 23 Kansas State uniform, dark hair a bit sweaty, eyes focused and looking ahead, as if replaying her past 30 minutes on the basketball court while sitting in the postgame news conference. It's another game for Jordan Speiser and another standout performance in a line of standout performances down the stretch of her true freshman season in Manhattan.
