Kansas State Rowing Facilities
THE K-STATE ROWING ERGOMETER CENTER is 1,300-square ft. and holds 40 ergs for the Wildcats to train on. The erg facility is equipped with wall to wall and rolling mirrors as well as video equipment to aid in the technical development of the team. Other land training equipment can also be accessed at this facility. The erg center is located in the center of campus, in Ahearn Fieldhouse, allowing land training to be a convenient part of each athletes daily schedule.
THE BUD AND MARTI NEWELL STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COMPLEX is a recently-constructed 13,000 square foot weight facility that includes more than $100,000 worth of essential weight training equipment. Under the guidance and supervision of strength coach Rod Cole, the 1999 National Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year, and a nationally certified strength and conditioning staff, each and every player is trained to reach peak physical performance. The state-of-the-art training facility is an integral part of Kansas State’s rowing success.

4Ahearn Field House was the product of a 10-year drive by several people, most notably athletic director Mike Ahearn and head men’s basketball coach Jack Gardner. The $2 million-dollar structure opened on Dec. 9,1950, when the Wildcats defeated Utah State, 66-56. The last basketball game in the building took place on March 5, 1988, when KSU defeated Missouri 92-82, in front of 11,850. The last official seating capacity listed for the facility was 11,220 (over the years, seating was reduced to conform to fire codes). Today, many of the K-State varsity athletic offices, including the Kansas State women's rowing offices, are housed in the complex. The venue is also one of America’s showplace indoor facilities. It houses the natatorium, Indoor track, three tennis courts and the K-State volleyball team home court.
BREIDENTHAL BOATHOUSE
Sitting above Elk’s Cove, on the Tuttle Creek Reservoir, the existing boathouse was erected in 1968. The 80’ x 60’ boathouse has two concrete bays, each wide enough to allow space for a crew’s fully-loaded shell trailer to enter for the loading and unloading of boats. The boathouse has space for over 20 eights and fours, as well as additional space for several smaller boats. The facility is located five minutes from K-State’s campus.
The Kansas State rowing program, raised $1.3 million for the Breidenthal Boathouse in a fundraised campaign to improve the rowing facility with completion of the project in 2005. The new and improved facility includes a team locker room, shower and bathroom facilities, a large team meeting area, space for equipment storage, an on-site training room, coaching offices and a “Catbacker” food and beverage area for home and special events. Combined with the pre-existing boathouse, the facilities will total more than 10,000 square feet of space dedicated to the Kansas State Rowing program.
