The Wildcats helped the Salvation Army, Special Olympics Kansas and others

MANHATTAN, Kan.- The K-State women's tennis team earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Community Service Award for 2023 on Tuesday (June 6).

"I'm proud of this team for their dedication to a cause bigger than themselves. It's easy to measure success on the tennis court and overlook ways to be successful off of it," head coach Jordan Smith said.

Throughout the season the team volunteered for organizations including the Salvation Army, Special Olympics Kansas and other events through K-State Athletics.

"Being able to serve the community should always be equally important and will never be lost on this team. Thankful to the team for giving their best at each event. As well as [assistant coach] Chase [Colton] for coordinating and working with André [Bean] (Director of Evans Competitive Advantage Program) to help provide opportunities for our student-athletes." Smith said.

The ITA recognizes coaches and players for their excellence on the court and in their communities throughout the season.

Two other schools in the Central Region earned Community Service Award Honorable Mention, including Nebraska and Wichita State.

Other postseason accolades for the Wildcats include freshman Vanesa Suarez being named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team at the end of April.
