Team Notes
With the win the Wildcats extend their winning streak over Missouri to nine games and six straight in Manhattan. The last Missouri victory came in 1992 (27-14 in Columbia) and its last win in Manhattan occurred with a 21-9 triumph in 1989. However, the Tigers continue to lead the all-time series 55-27-5.
Missouri averted its second straight shutout in Manhattan with a field goal in the final minute of the game. The Wildcats had shutout the Tigers three of the past five match-ups in Manhattan. Until that field goal, the Tigers had not scored in Manhattan since 1997 when MU QB Corby Jones scored on a 22-yard run with 2:56 left in a 41-11 K-State victory.
The Tigers posted the longest two runs of the season on the K-State defense. Tyrone Roberson's 32-yard run from scrimmage in the opening quarter was the longest run yielded by the Wildcat defense this season. That was until Zack Abron rambled for 62 yards in the final two minutes of the game. USC's Carson Palmer and Colorado's Craig Ochs each posted a 27-yard rush vs. the KSU defense.
K-State's 91-yard touchdown scoring drive in the second quarter was the third longest scoring march for the Wildcats this season. KSU scored on drives of 98 yards (vs. New Mexico State, Sept. 22) and 92 yards (vs. Kansas, Oct. 27).
The Wildcats held a team scoreless in the opening quarter for the sixth time in 11 games this season. They also held a team off the board at the half for the third time this year (USC, New Mexico State).
The Wildcats recorded their third safety of the season on Missouri's opening drive of the second half. The Tigers were called for holding in the end zone on their opening drive of the third quarter.
Kansas State has a string of 10 straight wins at home in November... The last time K-State lost a home game in November was on Nov. 18, 1995 when the Wildcats lost to ninth-ranked Colorado, 27-17.
Kansas State continued its solid play in November, as the Wildcats have won seven of its last eight games and 17 of their last 19 contests in the month of November. The two losses in that stretch came vs. Nebraska (1999, 2001).
The Wildcats, who entered the game ranked fourth nationally in rushing offense, ran for over 250 yards on the ground for the fifth time in the last six weeks. K-State is averaging 301.5 yards per game rushing over that time span.
Individual Notes
LB Ben Leber and WR Aaron Lockett made their team-leading 18th-straight start today.
The Wildcats starting offensive unit from a week ago remained intact. K-State started Matt Martin, Nick Leckey, Steve Washington, Andy Eby and Billy Miller on the offensive line, Brandon Clark and Aaron Lockett at wide receiver, Nick Warren at tight end, Ell Roberson at quarterback and Josh Scobey and Rock Cartwright at running back.
Senior RB Josh Scobey set the Wildcat single-season rushing record, eclipsing Isaac Jackson's 1,137-yard effort in 1973. With 198 rushing yards today, Scobey finishes his record-breaking season with 1,263 yards on the ground and 1,981 career rushing yards, which ranks fifth all-time on the KSU list.
Scobey set personal bests in both rushing yards in a quarter and one half. The senior rushed for 104 yards in the second quarter and 140 (on 22 carries) in the first half. Scobey went on to score on the longest rushing touchdown of his career, a 32-yarder, in the third quarter. That score gave him 31 total TDs in his career, which ties the Wildcat all-time mark of 31 set by Mack Herron (1968-69).
Scobey's 198 yards are the second most of his career and rank sixth on the Wildcat charts.
Melvin Williams registered the Wildcats' first blocked field goal in two seasons in the second quarter. Jeremetrius Butler had K-State's last blocked field goal vs. Texas (Oct. 2, 1999).
Freshman PK Joe Rheem connected on his second career field goal with his 22-yarder to end the half. After hitting two more in the second half, Rheem has now hit four straight attempts and is four of six on the season.
