Kansas State Quotes
Head Coach Jim Wooldridge
On the game...
"Our two guards Nick Williams and Tony Atchison, did well by scoring a lot of points in the first half. Pervis (Pasco) played tremendous tonight and I think that when you look at the statstics you can see there is a lack of turnovers. The opportunities to get the ball in the basket was a welcomed sight. The penetration was from a combination of getting inside of the defense and having good passes and how we played by getting it inside and making layups."
On the performance of Nick Williams, Gilson DeJesus and Phineas Atchison...
"Those guys are going to play the two and three spots. We've made production from there. Tony got some good looks in the first half and played with confidence. Hopefully, he will continue to provide us with that. Those seven points were all in the first half and those were big points for us to boost our team."
On the eight straight possessions...
"There were stretches in both halves and I think that they played very well. That was a major concern going into this game and we handled that great. There were things that were lacking from the halves, but there were a lot of layups in those stretches."
Senior Guard Larry Reid
On when K-State realized no one could guard Pervis Pasco...
"Early, when he started getting a lot of dunks and easy layups. It was obvious that we could go down and get an easy shot when they had to double team him, because somebody else would get an open shot."
On Nick Williams...
"He played a big game tonight. I think he gained a lot of confidence tonight and he really helped us on the offensive end. He shot the ball real well...He's starting to get into more of a groove, get comfortable out there, and take advantage of his opportunities."
Freshman Guard Nick Williams
On the offense during the past couple of games...
"It's been nice, and it definitely helps the confidence. We just want to come out and be productive inside every game like we were tonight."
On the team picking up the offense...
"We haven't discussed it, but we all know we have to pick up the scoring. Janerio was producing before he got injured, so we all know that we have to score more points as a team to pick up the slack from Janerio's injury."
Junior Forward Quentin Buchanan
On his improvement over the course of the season...
"You have got to compete, it's like a job out there. If you slack off somebody is going to step into your spot... If it (the lineup) changes, it changes for the good, for the team, and it gives us some more wins, I'm happy with that."
North Texas Quotes
Head Coach Johnny Jones quotes
On the game...
"I thought we performed. I thought we played hard. I thought when we got down 20, our guys continued to play hard, continued to cut into the lead, and tried to execute exactly what we were doing. Unfortunately, I though Pervis Pasco came out tonight and had a coming out game. He's a great junior college player. Some people thought he was going to be a pick in the draft. They thought he would go to the NBA this year. He hadn't played well early on, but tonight I thought he played exceptionally well and I think he has made his transition. I told our guys I liked the way we continued to fight."
On how North Texas played...
"I thought Unjel Masters came out and played exceptionally well. I thought he made some great offensive moves and that is something we haven't had from him all year. I thought he was aggressive on both ends of the floor. I thought we rebounded well against a team with their size and for as quick and athletic as they are. Unfortunately we had a bunch of turnovers and we didn't force enough turnovers on their end or created enough fast-break opportunities for us to get some easy baskets. I thought we made some progress and I am just looking forward to getting our team back home."
On the technical foul he received...
"Unfortunately the guy thought I said one thing and I did not say that and I explained that to him. But it was too late because he had made the call. I can promise you that had I said that, I would own up to it. Unfortunately, he heard me wrong and I explained it to him and we let bygones be bygones and it's behind us."
