KANSAS STATE HEAD COACH JIM WOOLDRIDGEKANSAS STATEHEAD COACH JIM WOOLDRIDGEOn the game...
"I kind of had the same feeling after this game as I didthe first game. There were some things that we could pull out ofthat game that were pretty good, but there are also some things thatwe are going to have to get substantially better at. Comparing thisteam to EA Sports, both had good players, but this team didn't shootthe ball quite as well during the course of the game. But, they didhave some pretty good players."
On K-State's play compared to the first game...
"I think we had some spurts where we passed the ballbetter and received it better and made better decisions. But we hadsome times out there where we were stuck in a rut on both ends of thefloor. I think you can take bits and pieces out of both games andsay 'this is how we want to play.' But you can take a lot out of bothgames and say 'we need to get better at these things.' I don't knowif there would be one area of the game where you could say we areplaying really well right now. So, it's an overall look at this teamand say we've got to rebound the ball better, we were out-reboundedin the first half. We need to pass the ball better and make betterdecisions with it. We need to play better individual defense, that'sbeen a problem. There's a lot of things we're going have to getbetter at, that's what it amounts to."
On Matt Siebrandt...
"I think Matt, offensively, is playing with a lot ofconfidence right now. We play off his low-post game a littlebit."
On Pervis Pasco...
"His (Pervis') guy scored the first 12 points, and he(Pervis) made another hustle play in the first half where he was ableto get a cheap basket. We need more out of Pervis. I don't thinkthere is any question about that...three rebounds isn't going to cutit, and I think he knows that. He's going to have to be a lot moreactive around that rim."
KANSAS STATE PLAYERS
TIM ELLIS, G, JR.
On how the game went...
"
I think that we played fairly well. We still need togo over some stuff defensively and do some stuff defensively.Offensively we looked pretty good, better than the last game. Sowe'll just have to wait for the next game."
On coming off a win instead of a loss...
"
It feels much better. I'm glad that we got a Winstead of an L. That makes us feel a whole lot better."
On this game compared to the last...
"
In the first half we came out with more intensity thanwe did last week. This time we didn't look so sluggish. We gotoff to a real good pace. We could have been better, but for the mostpart it was pretty good."JARRETT HART, G, JR.
On this game's perimeter defense compared to theprevious game...
"
I think our energy level was better. We know what todo, we just have to do it. We don't do it every possession. Ithink if we learn how to do it every possession and get mentallytough, I think we'll be alright. I think that we are going toprogress throughout the year."
On Coach Wooldridge talking about rebounding during halftime...
"
Yes, he was disappointed that we were down by 10.Coach is the type, he doesn't like messy things like littlebobbles and stuff like that. He wants two handed rebounds when you goup and get them. He puts us through the drills and we work on iteveryday in practice. We've just got to out there. He said itwas a hustle play and they were out-hustling us. So we tried to comeout in the second half and out-hustle them."On one of Pervis Pasco's dunksand getting the team going...
"
That's what we need. That's what gets theteam going. Not everyone knows that this is what gets us going as ateam. I think that we picked it up after that, but we've justgot to sustain and we'll be alright."MATT SIEBRANDT, F, SR.
On Pervis Pasco...
"
If you give him the ball and he's right next tothe rib, you know he's going to dunk it. So whenever I draw hisman, I just look right to him, because I know it's an automatictwo points."
On the game..
"
It was a win, but we didn't feel like we playedreally well. Our defense wasn't what we expected. We'lltake it but we've got a long way to go before ouropener."
On putting up a quiet 95 points...
"
We didn't look really good the whole game. It wasa quiet 95, but we're really going to have to bust our butts inpractice. We've got a long ways to go, but I think thatwe've got time to get there."On what needs to be happeningdefensively that isn't...
"
We're not grabbing the ball really well. Andwe're not rotating defensively to help-side defense. There's a lot of stuff on defense. It's scary, becausewe're about a week away from playing and it's not what itneeds to be. So we're going to have to fix that realsoon."On it being a communication issue....
"
No, it's not communication. These guys just needto step up and fulfill their roles more, that's one throughfive. There's not really anyone out there that's doing areally good job. Everybody's going to have to step up and do alittle bit better."ATHLETES FIRST COACH GARY VICK
On K-State's team...
"K-State's got a very powerful team, with a reallystrong inside. They've got some great athletes. I thought we came outand game them a little bit of a problem with the zone, and then wewent man-to-man and they executed well and just beat us." Comparing K-State with Wichita State...
"K-State is a power team. Wichita State is small, but they arevery quick. It's almost two different styles of basketball. WichitaState is just an upbeat tempo. They are going to press you, run upand down the floor and they are going to shoot outside and then beatyou down the floor for lay-ups. K-State is going to come down, passthe ball around, try to pound it inside and get the easy shots. It'sa slower-paced game with K-State as compared to Wichita State. Wereally had a hard time matching up with Wichita State because theywere so small. Out of 15 players at Wichita State, eight of them areguards and they are like 5-foot-11 guards."
On K-State's players...
"Wethought number 11 shot the ball real well. He was the one we wereconcerned with when we went to the zone. The guards, I thought, did agood job of moving the ball around and the post players did what theyare supposed to do. I thought they played well. I think K-State willbe a factor."
FORWARD BRUCE JENKINS
On K-State's team...
"They are a very talented and athletic team. They playtogether, are pretty disciplined and they play hard. That will getthem far if they keep doing it."
Comparing K-State to Wichita State...
"They are a little bit bigger. They are very similarbecause they play a fast-paced game, get on the boards, play gooddefense." On what K-State did well...
"They played hard. They played the whole game and theydidn't let up at all. They stayed focused."
