KANSAS STATE HEAD COACH JIM WOOOLDRIDGE
On the game...
"We missed some easy shots and had some turnovers and they made their free throws and that was the difference in the game."
"I though we had some opportunities down the stretch. The offense generated some foul shots for us and some lay-ups and we just didn't take advantage of it."
On closing the first half on an up note...
"I thought we defended well and Tim (Ellis) made a few plays for us and Marques (Hayden) made a few plays for us. It was probably our best segment of the game.
"We dug ourselves a hole early and came back and I thought played pretty solid defense."
On K-State's interior play...
"I think Pervis (Pasco) and Matt (Siebrandt) just tried to do too much. They are not those type of players. They are guys that have to get shots out of the offense and be smart enough to know where those shots are going to come from and they didn't play that way tonight."
KANSAS STATE PLAYER QUOTES
JUNIOR GUARD FRANK RICHARDS
On losing the lead in the second half...
"We lost our focus in the second half. We tried to make a comeback in the second half but they out-played us. We didn't come out ready to play (in the second half) and they came out and hit some big shots."
On K-State's big run at the end of the first half...
"Our momentum started picking up. Marques Hayden picked us up and we started playing harder and with more emotion."
On his first Division I game...
"Satisfied? No. Please with my play, yes. (My play) was okay."
JUNIOR GUARD TIM ELLIS
On K-State taking over heading into halftime...
"We had good energy toward the end of the first half. Everyone was enthused and we had the momentum. We felt good that things were going right. We were real pumped up to play."
On what the team needs to do to avoid let downs in the future...
"When things are going tough we need to learn to dig down and get that energy we need."
FRESHMAN MARQUES HAYDEN
On losing the lead in the second half...
"We came out in the second half kind of relaxed. We weren't as pumped up as in the first half. Everything was going right (at the end of the first half) and everyone expected that to continue. (BYU) came out and played harder and we just reacted too late."
On his play...
"I think I played all right. Defensively though, I didn't take all the steps I needed to in order to stop my man. As a team we need to work on making fewer mistakes."
"It's never good when I score that many points. We have two great post players in front of me but today wasn't their day. Once they get going I shouldn't be scoring that many points."
On losing the lead early in the second half...
"We were up at halftime and BYU came out fired up and ready to play. It was hard for us to maintain the lead and then hard to play catch-up. We weren't ready for (BYU) to go on a run like they did. We came out flat."
