KANSAS STATE HEAD COACH JIM WOODLDRIDGE

KANSAS STATE HEAD COACH JIM WOODLDRIDGE

On Pervis Pasco...

"I think Pervisplayed his best half of basketball in the first half. He was a good passer outof the post, he was an active rebounder, defended well and played with composure. He didn't force the issue or try to dosomething he couldn't do. I thought he played extremely well. His rebounds tonight is the stat that I look at with Pervis that is going to be the most important stat. Thatleads to 18 points. Pervis is one of those playersthat gets put-backs and gets fouled. He didn't do well from the line again, butthe rebounding is such a key thing for our team when you look at Pervis Pasco."

?

On Pasco's energy in the game...

"I think he probably playedbetter than anyone on the team. He just seemed to be locked in on this game anddoing things that we asked him to do. That is part of playing together, do yourjob, do the things we ask you to do. I thought he wasthe best on the floor tonight in doing that."

On the slow start...

"I don't know. It wasn't apretty game on the offensive side. We get 88 on the board tonight, but if youlook at the way the game was played on the offensive end, we looked ragged andwe didn't look like we had a lot of energy. But we were playing hard on theother end. I thought to start the game we were just really tentative on theoffensive end. We had opportunities to make plays inside and didn't do it. Gilson (DeJesus) got off to arough start. But Gilson came back about midwaythrough the first half and made some big shots for us and got us out to adescent lead. I can't explain the slow start. We preach this to our guys, yougot to be able to count on rebounding and be able to count on defending. Andwhen you find yourself in these kind of situations, like we did early on the offensive end, your defense and your rebounding haveto pull you through."

?

On Jarrett Hart...

"I thought there was a spurt inthe second half where he really played well. I think Jarrett is continuing tolook for consistency. I just hope we will be able to help him along in the nextfew weeks in getting ready for conference play. He has had these spurts wherehe has played awfully well."

On shooting an air ballearly to get into a rhythm...

"I didn't want to shoot an air ball, but it got me mad enough to shoot another three."

?

On getting back into arhythm after a week-long break...

"Ithink that was one of the problems. We had a tough game against Wichita State and a week of practice withoutplaying and I don't think we were used to that. We have been used to theplaying, and keep playing."

?

On thelong homestand...

"We need everything. We have fourlosses so we can't lose anymore. So we must win games now."

?

On therebounding effort...

"We were good,Pervis and Marcus did a great job. But we can stillwork some more because in the game Sunday we are going to need a lot morerebounds."

?

Kansas State guard Jarrett Hart

?

On the run at the end ofthe first half and staying focused...

"Coach is a motivator and hechallenged us to go out there and perform. We watched film on them all week andthey looked a little bit better on film than they played out there. I thinkthey were kind of off tonight shooting, but they were a great shooting team onfilm. I think coach just challenged us to go out there and, even though we wereup by a couple, go after it. He kept stressing they were a three-point shootingteam and they could come back. I mean if three's get drained and they make acouple stops and they are back in the game. So I think we were up to thechallenge and we came out and played hard."

On competing withLipscomb's scrappiness...

"They were a scrappy team and theygo to the glass hard. That is something coach stressed to us in practice. Sothat is something that we had to go out and do."

?

On therough start...

"I think we went out without enoughintensity for the game and that causes us to have a really slow start. I waskind of glad we got that out of the way early before the big game we have onSunday."

?

LIPSCOMBHEAD COACH SCOTT SANDERSON

On thegame...

"I felt their size and theirlength really hurt us. We knew they'd beprepared for us. This was a game theycan't ill afford to lose. Theirperimeter guys work extremely well and can shoot the ball well from three. They took away our three-ball and then whenwe were driving, we were driving into 6-foot-10 and 6-foot-11 guys and it madeit difficult for us to score."

?

On their low shooting percentage...

"We're a good shooting team, when we get good shots and I thought they did a good job of extending to us andagain, getting hands up in our faces and again their size and their lengthreally hurt us a lot. We've done a goodjob on the backboard this year and they outreboundedus by 14 and had 17 offensive rebounds.Against a team like that, you obviously can't give them 17 extraopportunities."

On what they got out of playing aBig 12 opponent...

"They think they can play withthem. It's more of a mental thing, Ithink, than anything else, that they think they are good enough to be able tocompete, play and sustain against a good quality basketball team like Kansas State.I thought early on we had a five-point lead, thenwe lost (Gilson) DeJesus. We lost him in transition a couple of times,he hit a couple of threes and got them right back in it. I thought our zone was effective early, slowed them down a little bit, then we got behind andhad to go man-to-man and it was just hard to match up against them."
