Kansas State Coach Jim Wooldridge
On the game...
"The mental part of our game broke down. We played a team today that played better as a team than we did."
On Pervis Pasco's performance...
"His field-goal percentage was as good as you can do, but it is hard for me to look at one player and pat them on the back and say you did well. It is hard for me to look at one individual's performance and say great job."
On holding them off in the second half...
"Tim Ellis made a few shots down the stretch. Pervis made a shot. We had a couple good stops. In a tight game like that you have to make some plays. You have to make some plays at both ends of the floor."
On the start of the second half...
"There was a timeout and I told the team, now's the time to put the hammer down. Then Monmouth made a run, and we lost an opportunity at that point to really gain an advantage."
On how he thinks the team will react...
"You don't know until you go through it. You find out if you've got leaders, and you find out if you have guys that want to respond to challenges."
Monmouth Coach Dave Calloway
Thoughts on the game...
"I am disappointed that we lost. We have had a lot of games like this where we fall a little short at the end. They are a little bigger than us, faster than us, and more athletic than us. "
On the Hawk's second-half surge...
"We do have good shooters and that was something that we built on in the second half. We had several three-pointers in a row that helped us stay in the game. We are capable of doing that during every game. If we can do that during conference play, we should do well."
On the upcoming schedule...
"On Tuesday we play UMKC, who is very similar to us. They only have one win as well. It is important that we win that game. It will help build confidence for conference play. "
#33, Dwayne Byfield, Guard
On the game...
"It was a good learning game for us. K-State is a good team and we did the little things wrong. It was a very physical game and showed us what we needed to work on."
On being the leading scorer...
"I played all right, but it wasn't enough. I still have some things to work on. I will watch the tape and go back to the drawing boards to see what I can improve on."
On adjusting for conference play...
"We are making little errors that we need to fix right away in order to win in our league. This was a good mental game for us because it is a tougher team than our league has."
#25, Kevin Owens, Center
improving before conference play...
"Our defense needs more work. We have shorter guys and we give up too much. The last five minutes of this game were big and we needed to step up in order to get a win."
On the team's performance...
"Everyone played their hearts out. We can count on that for every game. It is just that some shots didn't fall and we didn't make the right moves at times "
