Kansas State Head Coach Jim Wooldridge Quotes
Dec 20, 2003 | Men's Basketball
On the outcome of the game...
“I told the players it was a big win. I’m pleased with how we did in the game. We took care of the basketball and had limited turnovers. We got good looks at the basket and didn’t let them get into a transition game. All the points we emphasized that we needed to do to beat them we carried out the game plan.”
On the assists...
“The assists were a by-product of not turning over the ball against their traps and finding open players and getting open looks and then making them. It was about taking care of the ball, sharing it and completing the plays.”
On the need for balanced scoring...
“We need more offense than one guy can deliver. We scored off different spots on the floor. We had more balance and completion of plays. That’s a good sign to see.”
On the team’s rebounding...
“I don’t think we’re a good rebounding team by any stretch of the imagination. We have capabilities, but we have got to improve that area of the game to be successful. We can be better than we have shown now.”
On the 10 days of practice...
“We had a few days that were pretty good and a few days that were not so good in that 10-day stretch. Players are notorious for not wanting to practice for 10 days, and just want to play a game. We got a lot out of our players and we kept our conditioning in shape.”
On Cartier Martin...
“Cartier has so much more room to improve. He’s got the tools to be awfully good. We need to work to develop them. The experience he gets in these games will be monumental to his progress. There is another level he can get to. But like I told him, you can’t build a career in one week, it needs a steady diet of progress. It’s such a learning process. He sees things better than he did at the beginning of the season. He has a lot of room to move forward.”
On Jarrett Hart...
“We are capable of playing good basketball with him in there. He’s a jack of all trades. He’s really a point guard so we can use him in that area. He’s a good scorer. He is a good rebounder from that spot. He’s better on the defensive end. He’s a valuable player for us.”
