Leckey named Finalist for Rimington Trophy

Dec 04, 2003 | Football

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Two time first team All-Big 12 selection and preseason All-American Nick Leckey has been named one of six finalists for the 2003 Rimington Trophy, the organization announced Thursday.

Established in 2000, the Rimington Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding center in college football and is named for former Nebraska All-American Dave Rimington, one of college football's most decorated offensive lineman and the only player ever to win the Outland Trophy twice.

Joining Leckey as finalist are Vince Carter of Oklahoma, Jake Grove of Virginia Tech, Norm Katnik of Southern California, Hugh Reilly of Georgia Tech and Ben Wilkerson of Louisiana State.

The winner will be honored at an award banquet held at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Neb., on Dec. 13. Current ESPN personality and former NFLer Mike Golic will be the featured speaker at the annual event.

A starter in all 13 games this season, Leckey has made 38 consecutive starts heading into Saturday’s Big 12 Championship Game vs. Oklahoma and has been a key performer in the trenches for Kansas State’s 8th-ranked scoring offense (37.4 points) and 9th-ranked rushing offense (234.85 yards/game) this season.

The four-year old trophy is presented by Canon, USA, Black & Decker and Power Sentry. Since its inception the Rimington Trophy Award has raised over $200,000 for the award's benefactor, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
