Kansas State To Hold Academic Recognition Banquet

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Excellence in academics by Kansas State student-athletes will be honored at the seventh annual Student-Athlete Academic Recognition Banquet on Monday, May 5 in 7 p.m. at the new Alumni Center at Kansas State.
The annual banquet recognizes those student-athletes who have distinguished themselves academically and excelled in the classroom.
Honored at the banquet will be Wildcat student-athletes with a Fall semester or cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above; those who have been named to an Academic All-Big 12 Conference first or second team; and K-State student-athletes named Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-American or All-District honorees.
The recipients of the Bob and Lila Snell Award of Excellence and Effort will also be announced at the banquet. The award recognizes the outstanding male and female student-athletes who both improve their academic standing through sustained effort and commitment to learning. These winners have overcome obstacles and have shown tremendous effort in their academic work. Last year's winners were Teena Clincy of the women's track and field team and Osmar Castillo of the baseball squad.
For the second year in a row, the Kansas State male and female Scholar-Athlete Award will be announced. The award recognizes the male and female students who have achieved at the highest levels academically and athletically. Last year's recipient of the awards were Liz Wegner of the Wildcat volleyball team and Jon McGraw of the Wildcat football team.
Two new awards for student-athletes will be introduced. The inaugural presentations of the Veryl and Fern Switzer Campus Leadership Award and the Gina Sylvester Memorial Award will be presented at this year's banquet.
