NFL Commissioner
"With the fifth selection in the 2003 NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys select Terence Newman cornerback from Kansas State."
Post-Selection Interview with Chris Fowler
Fowler - "You're one of the fastest men around. You were the two-time Big 12 sprint champion. Terence, you are proof that a guy might be lightly recruited coming out of high school. It was Tulsa, Kansas and Kansas State that recruited you and here you are an early first-round pick."
Newman - "I was considered a project back in high school. Kansas State took a chance on me and it paid off."
Fowler - "You've got the kind of bravado and confidence that a great cornerback has to have. Anybody that you have to face at the next level that intimidates you?"
Newman - "I'm not intimidated. But the fear of failure is a great motivator, so I'm going to use that in the league."
Fowler - "You've said pretty bluntly that you deserved to be the No. 1 pick. Why not? Why not take you first?"
Newman - "Why not? I feel that I'm a great asset to a team. I feel I can help out someway or another. If I don't come in as a starter, I'll be on special teams, hopefully. I'll be there to help out in any way I can."
Fowler - "We talked at length yesterday about the nerve damage that you played though this past season at Kansas State. It might have scared some teams as Mel (Kiper) was talking about. I tested your shoulder and you seem pretty strong. Are you here to say that it's no problem at all? It's not going to effect you at all on the field with the Cowboys?"
Newman - "This is for Mel Kiper, Jr. There is nothing wrong with my shoulder."
