MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- Keith Langford scored 19 points and Aaron Miles matched a season high with 12 assists to lead No. 15 Kansas to a 78-70 win over Kansas State on Wednesday night.
Wayne Simien added 16 points and Miles had 13 -- six in the closing minutes -- for Kansas (13-3, 5-0 Big 12), which withstood a second-half challenge for its 28th straight victory over the Wildcats and 21st in a row in Manhattan.
Kansas State (9-7, 1-4) has not beaten the Jayhawks here since Jan. 29, 1983, and has never beaten them in Bramlage Coliseum, which opened in November 1988. The Wildcats last beat Kansas on Jan. 17, 1994, in Lawrence, where the Jayhawks won 73-67 earlier this month.
Kansas State trailed by 21 points early in the second half but used a 10-0 run to cut the lead to nine with 8:15 left. Tim Ellis closed out the run with two quick baskets, including a tip-in that made it 64-55. But Kansas responded with a two free throws by Langford and a 3-pointer by J.R. Giddens for a 69-55 lead.
Jeremiah Massey's tip-in with 33.8 seconds left got Kansas State within 75-68, but by then it was too late. Kansas went 8-for-12 from the line in the final 2:27, with Miles going 6-for-10 over that span.
Both teams missed plenty of chances to score on free throws, though. Kansas went 14-for-22 (64 percent), while the Wildcats were even worse at 12-for-21 (57 percent).
Massey led the Wildcats, who lost despite a 45-33 advantage on the boards, with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Jarrett Hart added 13 points, and Ellis finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Langford's 3-pointer gave Kansas a 30-17 lead with just under six minutes left in the first half. The Wildcats got back-to-back 3s from Massey and Hart to get within 30-23, but then went 1-for-5 from the free throw line in the final four minutes of the half.
Miles hit a 3-pointer with three seconds left in the half for a 40-19 lead.
A 13-3 run gave Kansas its biggest lead, 60-39, with just under 13 minutes left in the game.
