Kansas State Head Coach Jim Wooldridge Quotes
Feb 11, 2004 | Men's Basketball
On the game...
“We got off to a good start. We built some quick momentum. I thought we played well in both halves. We had a lot of guys making a lot of plays. We played good defense and continued to rebound the ball pretty well. It was a good effort.”
On defensive play...
“I thought in the first half that we really team guarded. We got back down the floor and took them out of a transition game. Their inside shots were coming off penetration and dishing it out to the forwards. I thought our team did a nice job in defending.
On the play of Jarrett Hart and Tim Ellis...
“They did a good job. They worked that guy (Jake Sullivan) and made him work for shots. That was blue-collar. Normally you don’t get recognized for that kind of effort. We know how important it is, and, obviously, Tim and Jarrett did.”
On the improvement of the team...
“If we are going to win games we can’t have one guy scoring 15 (points) and no one else scoring in double figures. I didn’t envision beating any league team by the margin we did. It’s a long conference season. You’ve got to keep battling to get better. I think our team has improved. I didn’t think we would win by this margin, and I don’t think anyone else in this room did. I did think we were starting to play better. We’ve got more guys playing better. We’ve played good quality basketball, and I think we can.”
On the play of Jeremiah Massey...
“I say this all the time to him, that less is more. Sometime shot selection will get away from him. He’s as coachable a guy as I’ve ever had ever coached. He’s got some habits that we are trying to take out of his game. I think that now he is recognizing when he makes a mistake, shot selection mistake, or when he plays loose. He’s just tightening up his game a little bit. He’s a very quick athlete. He’s using that quickness to score the ball, to rebound, to rebound a second shot, penetration shot off the high post, and in his high post game.”
On the improvement of Jeremiah Massey...
He had a couple weeks where it was pretty bad. He’s recognizing he can play better basketball playing a different way. You can’t argue with his numbers over the last couple weeks. He isn’t doing it against Duke, but he is doing it against quality teams in this league. He is putting up some staggering numbers right now. He is receptive of what he is being told. That’s the first step in playing betterbeing receptive to evaluation. He’s made a lot of strides in the last couple of weeks.
