Feb 07, 2004 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Jayson Obazuaye hit a driving layup with 3.6 seconds left, lifting Colorado to an 82-81 victory over Kansas State on Saturday.
Blair Wilson scored 26 points, including 7-of-10 from 3-point range, for Colorado (13-7, 5-4 Big 12). David Harrison added 19 points and Michel Morandais 18 for the Buffaloes, who squandered an 11-point lead with 3:49 remaining.
Tim Ellis had 25 points and Jeremiah Massey 21 for Kansas State (10-9, 2-6), which lost its 15th straight road game and 20th straight conference road game. The Wildcats haven't won a road game in the conference since beating Colorado on March 3, 2001.
The Wildcats almost pulled it off this time.
Colorado used an 18-8 run early in the second half to open up a 56-48 lead with 12:15 remaining. Wilson had 11 points, including three straight 3-pointers, during the surge.
Wilson's 3-pointer with 9:02 left gave Colorado a 67-56 lead.
Five straight points by Massey helped Kansas State trim the deficit to five points, but Colorado pushed it back to 11 on Harrison's tip-in with 3:49 to go for a 78-67 lead.
KSU scored the next nine points, including two baskets by Ellis and a 3-pointer by Marques Hayden. Colorado's Marcus Hall, meanwhile, missed four straight free throws, and the lead was cut to 78-76.
Morandais made two free throws with 22 seconds left, but Kansas State's Jarrett Hart hit a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left.
Kansas State stole the ball after the inbounds pass and Frank Richards was fouled, making both free throws for an 81-80 lead with 10 seconds to go.
Obazuaye then drove for the clinching basket. He was fouled and missed the free throw, but Ellis missed a desperation shot at the buzzer.
Colorado was without Harrison, its 7-foot center, for the last four minutes of the first half and six minutes of the second half because of foul trouble.
Morandais scored 12 points in the first half and Harrison added 10 to spark Colorado to a 35-33 lead at intermission. Each team shot 47 percent in the half.
Kansas State had a pair of 6-0 runs early in the half, the last one capped by Massey's driving layup for a 19-14 lead.
Harrison's baseline jumper and Wilson's 3-pointer made it 19-19 moments later.
Back-to-back baskets by Massey and Lance Harris gave the Wildcats a 28-26 lead, but Morandais countered with a layup and a 3-pointer for a 31-28 lead with 3:01 remaining.
