Carlos Torres Selected in 15th Round of Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Chicago White Sox

Manhattan, Kan. - Kansas State senior pitcher Carlos Torres was seleted Monday in Major League Baseball’s Amateur Draft by the Chicago White Sox in the 15th round with the 449th overall pick of the draft.
Torres became Kansas State’s 53rd player ever taken in the draft and was the highest drafted Wildcat since 1998 when Pat Hertzel waas chosen by Tampa Bay in the 14th round. Torres also became the 24th player in K-State history to be chosen in the top 15 rounds of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.
After transferring prior to this season from San Jose State, Torres quickly defined himself as one of the top pitchers on not only the team but in the Big 12 Conference. This season, Torres led the team in wins with six, ERA at 4.12 and innings pitched with 113.2. The 113.2 innings pitched was the second-best single-season total in Kansas State history and just 1/3 of an inning from the school record of 114.
Torres threw two complete games this season, including a sparkling performance in a 3-2 win over No. 9 Texas A&M in College Station. Torres went six-plus innings in 15 of his 16 starts this season and finished second on the team in strikeouts with 76. Opposing batters hit just .260 against the righthander.
Chicago took fellow Big 12 counterpart Josh Fields, a dual-sport athlete from Oklahoma State, with its first pick at No. 18 in the first round Monday.
