OFFENSIVE PLAYERS
SENIOR WR ANTOINE POLITE
On the run-oriented offense...
“I had no idea that we were going to be so run-oriented this week. We usually have the same schedule every game as far as our plays. I don’t know how it will be down the road.”
On Darren’s single-game record...
“On the field, I had no idea he was breaking a record. It sure was special to be a part of such a performance.”
On the team’s improvement...
“I think we improved. We can drive the ball as good as anyone and it is just a matter of finishing and eliminating turnovers.”
SENIOR FB VICTOR MANN
On Sproles’ performance...
“I didn’t know he was that close to a record. It is a reflection on us that he rushed for that many yards. I am very happy for him.”
On Sproles’ two fumbles...
“He is the type of person who wants to get better every day and every time he touches the ball. He is a little frustrated about the two fumbles and that is what is so great about him. He looks at the little things and how he can improve on those things.
SENIOR OL MIKE JOHNSON
On the offense’s performance...
“We wanted to go out and get four yards a play and move them off the line of scrimmage. I thought we did a good job of getting off the ball and winning the push up front.”
On the Big 12 schedule
“I look at it like a fight. Last week we got knocked down and we had two options. We took the first step today but we still have a ways to go to get back where we want to be.”
SOPHOMORE RB THOMAS CLAYTON
On the long fourth quarter touchdown drive...
“It was a very critical drive for the simple fact that we were only up by 10 points. But, for the team to have trust in me to get the job done, I felt like we got it done as a unit.”
On fumbles...
“I don’t think about that at all, because we work on ball security so much in practice, it should come easy. I just do what I feel like we need to and get the job done.”
On his playing time...
“It was a fabulous feeling. I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to do such a thing.”
DEFENSIVE PLAYERS
SENIOR DB CEDRICK WILLIAMS
On the game...
“We came out a lot better than we did last week with a little better tempo and a little more speed.”
On the team’s defense...
“Our problems weren’t tackling, but more of the guys knowing what their responsibilities are and communication. But, we’ll fix that and it was an improvement from last week.”
On upcoming Big 12 Conference play...
“Everything is more important now. It’s not just Western Kentucky, Fresno (State) or Louisiana-Lafayette. Now, we are getting to the nation’s best teams. We are ready and we will be ready.”
On what he admires about teammate Darren Sproles...
“His vision and his feet are both things you need in a running back. Those are things you can’t teach.”
JUNIOR DE SCOTT EDMONDS
On defensive improvements...
“The thing we got better at was emotional wise. We had a few assignments we messed up this week, but having the emotion we had out there this week is the first step.”
On the inability to tackle...
“That (tackling) shouldn’t even be a concern for our defense, but some of the guys on our team are having trouble with that. We will just have to go back to the fundamentals in practice for the next two weeks and take it from there.”
On a better effort than last week against Fresno State...
“We had a little more heart out there this week and that is step one. I was happy to see that. I could tell that everybody was a lot more pumped up this week. We still have a few assignments to correct, but those are the things we can take care of in practice. We just need to get that attitude back on defense.”
