| | Football Season Tickets Surpass Last Year The anticipation of watching the Wildcats defend their Big 12 championship at KSU Stadium against the likes of Fresno State, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas Tech helped push orders for football season tickets above 39,000 for the first time since the 2001 season. Sales stand at approximately 39,200, an increase of nearly 650 season tickets from a year ago. Season-ticket holders renewed their tickets at a rate of 98 percent, student sales rose after a two-year dip and interest in the End Zone Fun Zone and the new Young Alumni ticket categories has been strong.
Student seating in 2004 accounts for about 9,000 seats in KSU Stadium. In addition, the general admission seating area in the north end zone -- known as the End Zone Fun Zone -- has almost doubled to over 500 season tickets. And the Young Alumni plan, aimed at recent K-State graduates, has been extremely successful in its first year with more than 400 purchasing this season ticket. |

| Big 12 Television Contract Explanation It’s that time of year when we begin to receive numerous questions about the Big 12 Conference television contract and why certain games are on TV and others are not.
On a normal Saturday, there are three standard Big 12 television windows for its television partners (ABC, Fox Sports Net and TBS). The 11:30 a.m. game is usually a Fox Sports Net telecast, with ABC at 2:30 p.m., and then either Fox Sports Net or TBS airing the night game at 6 p.m. ABC has first choice of the Big 12 games on a given Saturday. Second choice goes to either Fox Sports Net or TBS in the 6 p.m. window and third choice to Fox Sports Net at 11:30 a.m.
Under the conference’s television agreement with those partners, if a game is not selected for one of those three windows it cannot be picked up by a local station for broadcast. They want the selected Big 12 games on in all the league cities for both exposure and ratings. We are all part of the conference package and because of the exclusivity of the contract, the schools receive many more dollars than those conferences that allow for broadcasts across the board.
The next option is to ask Fox Sports Net if it is interested in producing a pay-per-view telecast of the game. If they are interested, in most cases the game time would have to be 11:30 a.m., to avoid the ABC 2:30 p.m. window. With many of our fans coming from great distances in Western Kansas and elsewhere, 11:30 a.m. is not our first choice for kickoff time. With that in mind, we are willing to pursue all avenues to get our non-selected football games on TV via pay-per-view or potentially webcasts, but we will also continue to consider the impact of kickoff time and the number of tickets still available for that particular game. |

| | K-Staters Begin Their Day At K-Statesports.com As evidenced by the heavy traffic at http://www.k-statesports.com, it appears that more and more K-Staters are beginning their day at the athletic department’s official website. In just the first three weeks of the football season, k-statesports.com has recorded 203,000 visits and almost 3 million page views. One of the more popular features has been Wildcat Gameweek, which consolidates everything you need to know about each week’s football game (stats, rosters, depth charts, media releases, weather, parking, lodging, maps, etc.) into one webpage.
We also encourage you to try Powercat Passport, the premium video on demand and live webcast service for high-speed internet users. Through the end of September, fans who purchase an annual subscription to PowerCat PassPort for $79.95 will receive the 2003 Football Season Highlight DVD "Stand Up For The Champions" absolutely free. That’s a $40 savings. |
