On the second half...
“I thought we played a great first half. If we would have made a couple of easy layups underneath, we would have been ahead. Defensively, I thought we did what we were supposed to. Wecker was 1-8, Koehn had only made one shot, and life was good. But we were still down by four where I think we should have been up by four. The second half showed why they are a ranked team and we are still trying to figure out how the game should be played for 40 minutes. In the second half, they ran their stuff in transition and made good decisions on the break. They found Koehn a couple of times and McIntyre hurt us when she came in, and they started to get themselves together. I was disappointed with how we responded. We got our heads down in the sand and sometimes freshmen can do that. But I’ve got three older kids out on the floor and they were not helping my young kids through. That is why you’ve got to have leadership out on the court. It either needs to come from the coach or its got to come from a player, and we probably didn’t have either tonight. Give them (K-State) credit. To tell you the truth, this is a ballgame that I thought would go down to the wire by the way we were prepared and how we were ready to play, but it just didn’t happen.
On Shana Wheeler...
“Give Wheeler a lot of credit. For a freshman, I think she is one of the better ones in the Big 12. It doesn’t matter how many points she scores. That kid should be on the All-Big 12 Rookie Team even if she doesn’t have the stats because she is playing on a better team than some of my rookies are. (My players) might be getting stats, but I liked how Wheeler played.”
On the play of Morenike Atunrase...
“Morenike (Atunrase) was our most heralded freshman coming in and I just think she’s got a lot of game about her once she gets squared. She has to play inside this year and a lot of times she doesn’t square her body like she should, and like a Wecker does. She’s got someone to learn from. On that plane ride home, I’m going to sit next to her and tell her what Wecker was as a freshman, and what she can be. Hopefully, in four years we will be talking in the same breath as Wecker and Morenike.”
