Senior offensive lineman Matt Thompson extended his starting streak to 29 games he has started every game of his career dating back to the 2003 season.
Senior linebacker Nick Reid extended his team-best starting streak to 35-straight games.
Senior wide receiver Mark Simmons extended his streak to 29-straight games with at least one pass reception, which ranks among the top streaks in the nation.
Simmons’ two catches tied him for second all-time on the KU career pass receptions list with 131 career grabs. He is tied with Brandon Rideau (2001-04), and needs two catches to tie Willie Vaughn (1985-88) for first place.
Senior Greg Heaggans saw his first action of the season. The KU all-time kick-off return leader picked up his first return in the fourth quarter a nine-yard return.
Senior linebacker Nick Reid recorded his first interception of the year the third of his career. His return of 28 yards was KU’s longest INT return of the season. The Jayhawks have recorded at least one interception in each of the last three games.
Senior defensive tackle Tim Allen notched his first career forced fumble late in the first quarter.
Junior Charles Gordon returned a punt 54 yards at the end of the first quarter, marking KU’s longest punt return of the season. The previous high was a 33-yard return by Gordon against Appalachian State. It was Gordon’s longest punt return since a 61-yard return against
Senior wide receiver Mark Simmons hauled in a season-long 50-yard catch late in the second quarter.
KU’s 3-0 lead at the half marked the second time this season the Jayhawks shutout their opponent in the first half (also against Appalachian State).
Sophomore punter Kyle Tucker booted a 50-yard punt in the third quarter and a 63-yard punt in the fourth quarter to bring his total to 10 punts of 50 or more yards this season.
Gordon completed his first pass of the season a 24-yard toss to Marcus Herford and the second of his career. Gordon’s first career completion came last season when he threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Rideau against Texas Tech. The catch was the first of
Sophomore tight end Derek Fine hauled in a career-long 22-yard reception toward the end of the fourth quarter.
The Jayhawk defense also held K-State to 182 yards in total offense, the fewest by the Wildcats this season (previous low for KSU was 248 yards at
KU’s time of possession was a season-low 18:00 (previous 28:15 vs. Appalachian State).
K-State’s 12 points were the fewest by the Wildcats against
