Head Coach Bill Snyder
On
“I think it’s pretty obvious that he’s an extremely talented football coach. I like the way he manages his programs. I think he does it in a very classy fashion. He’s a good person in addition to being a very, very fine football coach and he tries to do things the right way.”
On the conference standings and the importance of winning against a South division opponent ...
“Each week we have a state of the program and the conference message that’s not elongated it doesn’t take very long just so young guys understand exactly where they are. In terms of the North division with us having two losses and
On adjusting from Tech’s offensive attack to A&M’s offensive attack...
“You go from one oven to the other perhaps. Reggie McNeil is a pretty good player and he offers some things that you didn’t see or haven’t seen in the past weeks. They’ve got an excellent balanced offense. They’re pretty equal when it comes to the run or the pass and the numbers would indicate that. Reggie McNeil is a very talented young guy that presents problems with the pass but also presents problems with the option and the quarterback run game. There’s much more to defend against so I don’t think we’re in a comfort zone we just have to change directions in regards to our coverage a little bit.”
On Reggie McNeil as the best dual threat quarterback in the Big 12...
“I haven’t seen very much of Brad Smith, but knowing what he’s done in the past and knowing what a great season he’s having as well, I would say those are probably the two most prolific in our conference in regards to multi-talented quarterbacks.”
On increasing defensive pressure to the quarterback...
“We’re not as good of a four-man pass rush team as we’d like to be, but it doesn’t mean that we haven’t had some pass rush. If you get good pass rush you better be able to tackle him. There were times (against Texas Tech) when we had good pass rush and then (Cody Hodges) bounces out of the pocket and we lose containment on him and he can make some plays happen as any quarterback could with that additional period of time. It’s not just pass rush but having the appropriate pass rush. It’s being able to keep (the quarterback) contained and not let him scramble. Here’s Reggie McNeil who had 150 some odd yards against Oklahoma State last week on 12 carries and most of those or a good portion of those were scrambles. We’ve got to be able to control his ability to get out of the pocket and throw the football. Sometimes if you can’t do it with four you try to do it with five or six. We’ve had some good pressure on during the ball game but we haven’t been able to do it with four people.”
Freshman Quarterback Allan Evridge
On if he’s concerned about the hits he’s taking...
“I’m fine. It’s football. It’s a part of the game. I’ve got to get my head up and see that guy sooner. I probably had my head down, but in that case I didn’t have enough time to react. So it was a good play on his part.”
On his thought process on how to avoid hits...
“Just not taking a hit in two years, you kind of forget the little things, how to turn and how to adjust. I don’t know how I didn’t see him. He turned and came straight downhill. I looked right, I looked left, and in one second he’s like a foot away from me. I didn’t have much time to react.”
On his level of comfort for the
“I feel fairly comfortable. I’m just going to try and improve everyday like I always have been. Just continue to grow in the system and as a team and continue to try and go in the right direction.”
On
“It’s a big game. We try to take every game- our motto is 1-0, as you guys know. So we just try to take it like that. It is a big game when you think about it though. We’re definitely trying to get things right and do things the way it needs to be done."
Sophomore Free Safety Marcus Watts
On the feeling after the
“I was a little shocked, but the thing about this team is that we can put things behind us. I thought yesterday our defense had a good practice. We put everything behind us after we watched the film in the afternoon and came back at night and had a good practice and preparation for A&M. We’ll come back; we’ll come to work harder than before. We know we have to. There were mistakes we have to correct. I think we’ll be alright and we’ll get through it.”
On preparing for Reggie McNeal...
“It’s not as bad as a lot of people think. He’s a very, very good quarterback. He throws a good ball. He’s very elusive. But with Allen Webb being like him, and Evridge being like him, we’ve seen it during two-a-days and spring ball. So we’ve seen a quarterback like Reggie McNeal. It’s going to be a difficult challenge, but at least we’ve seen athletes like Reggie McNeal.”
On what he’s seen from Reggie McNeal...
“All of the tape we’ve seen so far has been their option game. So I haven’t seen much of other (things) but their option game. He can throw a good ball, so you have to be on your toes at all times. They have a very good play-action game, so you just can’t always be waiting for Reggie McNeal to run the ball even though he will run it at times. He’s got a great arm, so you have to be prepared for everything. You just can’t focus on one thing.”
Sophomore Defensive Back Bryan Baldwin
On the confidence level after
“We’re still confident. It was just a bad game, actually a bad second half. We’re still confident, and we’re going to bring it even harder the next game.”
On if Reggie McNeal is the best QB in the Big 12...
“In terms of passing, we just played against him. In terms of running, probably McNeal. Yes he’s the best.”
On limiting
“Yes we’re definitley going to try and keep that down. I don’t worry too much about how many points they can put up because that’s all determined on our defense and how good we play. So if we come to play, I don’t worry about how many points they can put up because it’s about how well we are going to play.”
Senior Offensive Tackle Jeromey Clary
On how important it is to get off to a good start...
“I think, against Tech, we started out very well. They came out and scored, and we answered. We got the ball back and we went down and got another field goal. Granted, we need to turn those into touchdowns because field goals aren’t good enough and we aren’t going to settle for field goals. But I think we got off to a pretty good start last week, and we need to learn how to carry it over into the second half.”
On the importance of running the football...
“As an offensive unit, that’s one of our goals is to have 200 yards rushing and 200 yards passing. If you can gain 400 yards of total offense, your chances of winning are dramatically increased. If you can rush the ball for close to 200 yards, your passing game is going to be fairly decent just because it’s going to open it up. If you are running well, they are going to have to pack the box and try to get eight in the box and put them in man coverage. We’ve got wide receivers who are good enough like Jordy and Yamon and Jermaine- they’re talented athletes and if you put them in one-on-one, more than likely you are going to have somebody open.”
