Kansas State Player Quotes
Oct 22, 2005 | General
Sophomore S Marcus Watts
On the game...
“It’s very frustrating. We got off to a slow start on defense and we’re down 14 (points) early. We tried to hold on, but they just outscored us today. It is frustrating because we were real close.”
On the mistakes the defense made today...
“We have to eliminate stupid mistakes. I had a couple of personal foul penalties. I don’t think they were, but the officials saw it that way. We have to start doing things right and stop doing the things that are hurting us.
On
“I was telling our defense that we needed to at least hold them to a field goal. It would give our offense a chance to score a touchdown and win. They ran the right plays. They ran a load option and we didn’t do our assignments right and that’s going to kill you every time.”
Sophomore DB Adam Hamilton
On the blocked punt...
“I just got an opportunity with the ball so close to the goal line. They didn’t bump me off the line and I just tried to put pressure on the back three guys and I got my hand in there and made the block.”
On
“I haven’t seen a punt formation like that before. It was good they were at the goal line and I didn’t get blocked at the line.”
Junior LB Brandon Archer
On back-to-back losses...
“We have our backs against the wall. We have to come out fighting and get some wins.”
On
“It was pretty painful. We knew we had to get a stop on defense and we didn’t get it stopped. I don’t think it was an issue of being tired at all. We just weren’t getting it done.”
On
“He’s obviously a good athlete. We couldn’t contain him when we needed to. The times that we did we had to keep that up. He is a tremendous athlete.”
On the loss...
“It’s tiring and it hurts, but we know we have to go back to the drawing board and be back here next week.”
Junior Wide Receiver Yamon Figurs
On the dropped passes...
“Just focus more, catch the ball. I wasn’t focusing much, it was just a bad day. An off day, that’s all it is.
On if the drops get in his head...
“After the game it does, because you can’t get back to practice at first. I wish practice was tomorrow so I could get back to catching the ball. I have to wait until Monday.”
On if the team backed itself into a corner...
“Yeah we did. From the beginning of the game we had like three penalties that put them on the twenty and then put them on the thirty. So that had a lot to do with it. They played a real good game though.”
On the mood of the team after the game...
“It was sad, because we had this game so many times. We just didn’t play.”
Senior OL Jeromey Clary
On if there’s a sense of urgency...
“Obviously if you aren’t winning, there’s a sense of urgency. I have confidence. I think that we did some good things today. We opened up the passing game pretty well. We’re still having trouble with the running game. That falls on the offensive line. We have to pick it up.”
On if the offense is out of synch...
“I don’t think we’re out of synch. I mean we still did some good things. We got down and had fourth and one, and we didn’t convert. And that falls on the offensive line once again.”
On if he’ll look at the positives or negatives...
“I think the positive outlook on it is that we didn’t quit. Last year, in 2004, everyone challenged our heart and challenged if we cared. Today we obviously showed we do. We fought to the very end. And if we would have got that onside kick, who knows what the turnout would have been.”
On taking the positives and negatives into account...
“You have to take them both to the same degree. You’ve got to look at the positives and say we did do some things well, but it’s not where we need to be. We have to come back to work Monday and try to iron things out.”
Sophomore Jordy Nelson
On the feeling of losing another game...
“We had chances (to win) and we blew it. It’s not a good feeling; it never is. Obviously you want to win; I just think it shows what this team is made of. After the big loss last week we could have just come in here and taken a beating but it shows the character on the team and I think it shows what’s to come the rest of this season.”
On K-State penalties and the frustration the team is experiencing...
“It’s what killed us last year and it’s what is killing us this year so far. You can’t win the game if you’re making mistakes and so you just have to go into next week and improve on. Hopefully we’ll figure out why and maybe its discipline and maybe it’s focus, I don’t know.”
Freshman Allen Evridge
On teammates continually dropping passes...
“It’s frustrating but you just got to forget them. Those guys make great plays for me when I throw a bad ball. It goes both ways. I’m not going to harp on them. They are all great players and they will be able to turn it around. It happens, and it happened today. It’s frustrating but those guys will do it and they make me look awesome all the time.”
On where the team is right now...
“It tough. To speak for myself, I’m just really frustrated. I hate to lose like that. It’s never a fun thing. I’m ready to come in and start on film right now if I could and try to build and get this thing going in the right direction. We are close, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. That’s the phrase you always hear.”
